13. Sports statue design is not in a good place these days. Also just because something looked good in a photo or video doesn’t mean it’s going to translate well to a statue in the round. The Pat Tillman one is a good example of that disconnect

23. There’s a lot to not like about this statue. And the more you look at it the worse it looks.

    * Kobe’s face is a mess. It does not resemble him at all. The chin is not his.
    * Gigi, especially her face, looks like a madame tussauds’ wax figure. It’s creepy and doesn’t translate to a bronze statue.
    * The NBA chairs here look cheap and out of place. I know they’re from the photo, but they do not translate well.
    * The wings look like an afterthought and do not fit with the overall statue at all. They are sad wings.
    * Kobe’s right hand looks like its from a Dr. Seuss book.
    * Gigi’s right leg looks like its covered in Cellulite.
    * The size difference between Kobe and Gigi are all wrong and I think its why it looks like they’re a couple. Gigi is too big or kobe is too small. Gigi was like 5’4-5’5 and Kobe was 6’6.
    * I know they’re recreating a photo, but immortalizing gigi and kobe in a random outfit they chose to wear to a random basketball game is just weird. And it shows.
    * The 3 components look totally disconnected: the wings, the chairs, the statue. It looks like the wings were borrowed from elsewhere, & the chairs were brought in when they realized the statues couldn’t support themselves.

24. Can someone explain why so many sports statues look terrible? Most random statues I see in parks look way better. Is there an actual reason or is it just cheapness by the teams/laziness or incompetence by the artists?
