  1. “But despite what the world saw on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” the Giants aren’t looking for a way out. They might have concerns about Jones’ health, but they don’t have buyer’s remorse. They paid him because they have faith in his abilities.” Dawg they tried every scenario to move on from him before the draft even happened. They 100% had buyers remorse wtf lmaoooo

  2. If he turns out to be at the very best considered “good”, behind a decent O line and some reliable targets, this could well be a bargain considering the pay day of others.

I don’t think we get to pick that high again for a while. If DJ doesn’t work out, we’re buying an established one in the future.

  3. I’m not buying this article. They tried to move on in the draft but couldn’t or didn’t want to give up 3 first round picks. We all saw it. They have buyers remorse for sure. Maybe Jones shocks everyone this season and has a great year but let’s be real!

  4. The fact that they got the final say on the footage HBO got and they purposely allowed all that QB draft research, the interviews, literally asking Jayden how he feels about being the NY QB and moving here tells me they did it purposely to light a fire under Jones’ ass and make him prove that he’s worth it.

This will no doubt either be his last year here or his hell of a redemption arc. I pray it’s the latter.

  5. Are we sure this isnt from last year?

This is the same team that desperately tried to trade up to #3.

Oh the pain in Joe Schoen’s eyes when Elliot Wolf told him the Pats were not going to trade and were going to take a QB at #3. You could see Schoen shook to his soul as he came to the realization that his job was going to be in Daniel Jones’s hands.

  6. Ralph ‘Charter Member of Giants State Media’ Vacchiano reporting for duty.

Even the most ardent Jones believer can’t say this is remotely accurate with a straight face.

  7. Sports “journalists” really need to limit the number of columns they write. Can we wait until seeing the team play before guessing like this? Useless waste of time to write or read this stuff.

  8. The only “bargain” is the relatively small cap hit when the giants cut him next summer.

Even if he lights it up, they’re cutting him. One good season doesn’t make up for 5 bad ones.

  9. Maybe I’m in the minority but it really doesn’t feel like the worst deal. QB deals are crazy now, Jordan love and tua both just got bags and tua hasn’t won a playoff game..

  10. Compare Jones and Trevor Lawrence’s stats and contracts.

It is a deal but doesn’t matter if Jones and the Oline’s play doesn’t improve

  11. Everyone saw this working out to be a fine contract with the likelihood the market continued to grow as it did, and it worked out, contract wise. It’s a bargain if we were getting a top 15 QB, which we were expecting when they offered the contract but, DJ just hasn’t panned out in a horrendous 2023 season.

Unless DJ has ridiculous season fully healthy, I don’t see him as a NYG in 2025.

  12. For this deal to become a steal he would need 3300 yards and 20 td’s that would be 65% of the top QB’s stats at 60 mill. I can’t believe I am bending analytics to make this thing work.

  13. Admitting my bias here – I’m a Jones fan, and believe the Giants have done him dirty with the lack of offensive line, WR’s and asking him to learn multiple Offenses. As many, including our current coach have said, Pat Mahomes couldn’t win behind this line. That said, Jones does have the talent and ability to be a very good QB in the NFL – assuming he can stay healthy and upright for more than 2 seconds per play. Considering some of the other deals, Jones is now a bargain.

As far as the QB research – that is done every year by every team – even if they don’t want/need a QB. They may have to play against that QB and understanding how they think and react to things is a benefit regardless of if you plan on drafting them or not.

Furthermore, even teams with a solid starting QB draft well. Let’s look back at some of them… Packers had Farce and drafted Rodger, then drafted Love. Patriots had Drew Bledsoe and drafted Brady. Chiefs had Alex Smith and drafted Mahomes. 49ers had Montana and drafted Steve Young. Point being you need multiple QBs today and you never know who’s gonna be the next superstar. Moreso if you never look into things.

  14. That first year playoff win really threw off their plans, in my opinion. The expectation last year was to get back in so they really didn’t have a choice but to pay him or be in a cap hole from tagging him. Either way, they didn’t have a good enough draft spot to get a new QB and the free agent options weren’t worth a switch. He doesn’t deserve that much money, but I don’t think the contract was a mistake.

This year they tried to get Maye knowing they could move on from Jones after this year with a rookie QB on a low salary. They didn’t get him and they still have a QB they believe in more than any other available options.

It isn’t like they traded the farm to get Jones and then gave him record guaranteed money.

  15. It’s crazy how much this contract looks like a bargain in comparison to Tua’s and Love’s.
