Jalen getting good reps versus league vets CP3, Jordan Clarkson, Deandre Jordan, KCP +more

Jalen looked phenomenal playing scrimmage against the vets in this one. He has been putting in training time with Chris Johnson. His vision and 3pt shot making looked excellent. You can tell from the video CP3 (his teammate) was really trying to make plays and mentor him out there on the court. His handles are getting crispier because he knows he’s going to be taking on the role of point forward. CP3 and Jalen reminded me of what could be Jalen and Trae aka PB+J this up coming season. He is definitely looking like our 2nd option as well as a def candidate for MIP next season. There are more videos of him training with Chris. Let me guys know what u think from the video.

  1. Good to see his handle look better. He’s passing in a way we already knew he could

But what I’m seeing is he still has a long way to go in the half court. Still no go to move besides a contested one leg fade in the post. He lacks scoring creativity, real bad. He also should’ve scored on the smaller defender easily a couple of times here or drew the foul.

I don’t think he’s ready to be a number 2 scorer on a playoff team.

We’re going to have to get those points missed by DJ by committee. I get it’s a lot to pick up from just a pickup a game but what you need to be looking for here are changes, or at least strides, in things he wasn’t previously good at.

You did see some off the dribble jump shots which is encouraging, but like I said, his in between game is so much more important in terms of taking the next step. An off the dribble 3 will likely never be a high percentage shot for him

I see 19/10/5 which is a great stat line but we don’t have enough punch elsewhere on the roster, that may not be enough. If he was giving us 23/10/6 then I’d say we’re ready to go.

But one thing about JJ, that I sadly thing will limit his ceiling, is that he doesn’t want to make the wrong play, almost ever. You need a bit of that in you to be a true dog in the league.
