  1. When’s the last time a team changed captains like this? I remember the Sharks did it like 10 years ago with Thornton and Pavelski, but it wasn’t stripping Thornton of the captaincy to immediately give it to Pavelski, they took the C away from Thornton, played a full season without a captain, then gave it to Pavelski.

  2. Is it just me or does Matthews not seem like the captain type of guy? Like he feels like a Pasta or Kuch type guy

  3. I’d prefer Rielly but I get needing to throw the weight of the C on him and see if he sinks or tugs

  4. I don’t know, he seems like the type of guy who wouldn’t want it, but I’m happy for him. After last season, he deserves it.

  5. This is one of those times I’d honestly love to hear a podcast of former players chiming in on how they think this plays out.

Is who has the C on their jersey of any importance in the locker room? I wouldn’t think so, I’d think it’s more organic and the important locker room guys aren’t important because of a label, but… I haven’t spent much time in an NHL locker room so tf do I know hah

I’m assuming to the players this is more of a nothingburger, or maybe a stick tap for AM earning the honour/removing the burden from JT, but who knows, maybe the players do hold the letters in high regard

  6. Doesn’t seem like captain material, seems like he would rather play a supporting role than actually leading the team

  7. Makes sense. Jt isn’t crosby ovi stammer or kane. He’s decent but he isn’t a 90+ ot most seasons guy or a leader.
