The national media rarely gives the New York Islanders much respect and that continued this week. NHL Network released their list of the top 20 wings in the league and guess who wasn’t on it: Mathew Barzal. We discuss whether Barzy belongs on this list, who made it and some potential reasons why Barzal was left off the list by the voters.

13 gets no respect because he plays for isles and has only two near ppg seasons. And is 13 a c or w because 13 is good just not elite enough for top 20. Perhaps playing with a goal scoring winger for once would put 13 in elite company. And playing for a boring middling team that is nothing to get excited about doesn't help 13's cause as well. 13's ability just doesn't fit this fossilized era of isles hockey. If he were on a 21st century up tempo team where his talent can shine i'm sure he'd get more recognition from national (u s) east coast biased media.
I think that Barzal is an elite talent. However as it has been pointed out he has only had 2 elite seasons
The fact that he is not a pure goal scorer is not the issue but rather production on the ice
The last point is the obvious obnoxious habit he has of over skating the puck doing his curls qnd then turning the puck over
Ovechkin?? Really? At this point in his career? Whoever voted are biased, liars, or just don't understand hockey because if a general manager could add Barzal or Ovechkin to the team at their contract prices, and they chose Ovi I think they'd be fired.
