Two-Man Rotation Article

What are everyone’s thoughts on this article? I understand the frustration with the two-man rotation. I don’t think it’s a sustainable way to win by any means, and frankly I’m surprised how well the pitching staff has held up since the trade deadline. But the amount of hate and blame Chris Fetter gets in this article is ridiculous. I definitely think that if Fetter left for any managerial position, it would be a huge loss for the Tigers as an organization. This is especially true if he were to leave for a division rival.

  1. It’s not *really* a 2-man rotation anymore. I think they’re having relative success using openers and aren’t trying too hard to change that up, but we regularly have Sammons-Maeda-Hurter going 5+ innings every time around now. Unconventional? Sure. But the bullpen isn’t absorbing all the innings anymore like it was around the break.

  2. What a god-awful article that comes off like it was written by a blabbering idiot. Why don’t the tigers have a five-man rotation? They don’t have five starting pitchers. They’re hurt, or in the minors because they’re not good enough. Losing Fetter would be disastrous for the team. End of story.

  3. 8-7 since the trade deadline…these guys just making a stink to draw clicks. If you’re paying attention you see the strategy.

  4. It’s worth questioning why we have no starters right now and why our rotation is pretty much gone. But this specific article is a poor attempt at criticism.

He’s blaming Fetter for injuries, which seems like a stretch. He asks a lot of questions without thinking of logical answers. Why isn’t Hinch complaining? Because it was probably his idea. Has any team been successful with this strategy? Can’t really think of one, but this season isn’t about wins and losses. It’s about development — so the question shouldn’t be asked, why not bring up Jobe or give Madden a try even though he’s sucked this season? Is Manning injured again? Let him pitch if not. Again, I don’t care if he’s sucked this year. But whatever.

Poor writing aside, it’s frustrating as a fan because we only know that Skubal is making a start every five days and we’ll probably see Maeda as a long reliever once a week and Montero will start as well. The rest is a crapshoot.

  5. This article was so bad I had to take note of the authors name so that I could just skip anything else he does in the future

  6. What a dog shit article. Shitting on something that has for the most part worked. Look at the era since the trade deadline vs era the last year
