Clay Holmes: First Yankee with 10 blown saves in a season since Dave Righetti (13) in 1987

He'll break that record.

  1. At some point they’re gonna have to do something and stop pretending that this isn’t an issue.

They can’t gaslight us for much longer we’re not that stupid. I don’t care what the stat cast says he’s a problem.

  2. You’re not winning a title with Cardiac Clay as your closer, end of story. Unfortunately it appears Boone is giving him a limitless leash.

  3. he’ll break it in his next 5 attempts. and there’s no chance in hell boone makes a change

  4. Holmes sucks, but you don’t win a lot of MLB games scoring 1 run through 9 innings. Dismal effort all around.

  5. Literally anyone over Clay. Except Leiter. They can both hold hands and walk into traffic.

  6. How about some fucking accountability? Holmes should be told he’s exclusively pitching the 7th until he can show that he deserves to be used in high leverage situations.

  7. 10 blown saves on the season. If Holmes closes on half of them (which still sucks) we have a 6-game lead in the East… When does he not become a 9th inning option? 15-blown saves? 20?

  8. Lack of control and mental makeup is killing this guy’s chances of ever being great.

His ‘stuff’ is unreal, but how many years are you gonna be a ‘project’…?

  9. Swap Holmes with Kahnle, that changeup for Kahnle has been up there with Devin Williams Airbender change lately.

  10. Does anyone else say game over when he comes in. Meaning game lost. Not exactly the feeling we got when hearing ENTER SANDMAN!

  11. I think he’s blown more saves than actually converting them in the past few weeks. I don’t understand how Boone still has faith in him. Terrible. He blows the game on national tv in front of a bunch of little leaguers. At least the kids learned something, don’t be like Holmes.

  12. For us old fucks that think that need reference, no- it wasn’t recent. 1987 was almost 40 years ago.

It’s like early jeter to the late 50s teams.

  13. People talk about how unlucky Clay Holmes is with soft contact, but nobody talks about how unlucky Yankee fans are to have to watch him as closer

  14. The pain in this is seeing Aroldis out there finding his stuff again and King dealing in SD. I live in southern California, so I’ve seen the Dodgers fans have to deal with the Jansen stuff the last couple of years he was there, I get the same feeling they used to get. I see Holmes come in and immediately think, “Don’t fuck this up…”
