Don’t try and make sense of this one. It’ll hurt to much. Take the 25 3rd and 26 2nd for taking a cap dump and Ty. Grier got screwed. End of story.
Walman Ceci
Ferraro Rutta
Vlasic Benning
Thrun Mukuhmadullin
I'm fine with this. Gap fill until the kids are ready.
The Sharks are getting a solid defender in Ceci. Good hockey player. Paul Coffey has a world of respect for him.
Ya'll be overvaluing Emberson. We trade an less known quantity for a known quantity that we can flip at the TDL and a pick.
Give him a chance to get some points and he’s gone at the TDL.
Really simple to see the strategy here.
I liked the upside of Emberson but we needed a RHD and with his injury concerns + the log jam at LHD, it makes sense to bring in a vet that’ll help guys like Shakir & Thrun while also getting a 3rd round pick we needed to replace
Jack Thompson's in a contract season and ready to debut in the NHL. the 22 yo is a better talent than Emberson. once they flip Ceci, Thompson should be inbound.
Kinda hope they re-sign Granny, lovin' the Lund line!!
Grier had ALLL the leverage here and once again dropped the ball. Oilers are in cap hell and needed to package somewith him to dump him. Any other GM that had cap space wouldve gotten a 2nd or maybe even a 1st (2026)…. Not only that but Grier also gives back a player. I dont understand why people still defend these moves/draft picks he makes. This move was AWFUL
The Oilers were in a tough spot where they had to move people and get their cap down. We'll see how it goes as they continue to work on this problem of theirs. I expect to see more playing time for Emberson this year as we get some of these younger players worked into the system. It will take a little time to accomplish though.
Oilers fan from Edmonton. You will like him. He is solid. Remember, despite what some say consider the following…1–Oilers were Top 5 Defensive Analytics after Knoblach and Coffey took over coaching….2–Oilers had THE BEST PENALTY KILL IN NHL PLAYOFF HISTORY going on an unheard of 49/50 streak….3—Oilers made it to Game 7 of the finals, lost by ONE goal and Bouchard hit a post, it could have gone either way….4—Ceci was on the ice for a lot of that. …I get what the Oilers are doing now, but it is sad to see him (and others) go.
Same 2007 mistakes Oilers rebid for the next 10-15 years ???
Between Nurse and Ceci, I would always notice Nurse trapped in no-man's land above their own crease while Ceci was pinching a guy on the boards. Ceci does fine as a shutdown defenseman, but doesn't have much for the offensive end of things. Getting a 3rd rounder with him is good. Not fantastic, but good. Grier did well on this trade.
