Given what’s up with Kolosov and how important Michkov is should the Flyers be trading for good young Russians?

I would absolutely try to get Askarov. No disrespect to Errson but I would trade him in a heartbeat to give Matvei another Russian buddy to grow with who happens to be an amazing prospect.

Or maybe pull a Montreal and carry 3 goalies until the trade deadline, or even rotate Errson or Fedotov to the AHL until the TDL and get whatever you can for your 3rd wheel. We're rebuilding still right?

I would be looking for any good young Russian in the NHL to trade for if I was Briere after the whole gong show with Kolosov's hurt feelings.

  1. We have almost no real assets that are worth a good young player. TK was the only one who was going to net you something big and he’s now here to stay. Danny B has a vision and he needs to stick to it. Chances are we’re going to suck next year and more likely than not next and that is what we should be doing to garner young talented assets no matter which nationality.

  2. I’d be fine trading for Askarov (for the right price), but Kolosov’s situation should have zero influence. Guy is a good prospect… but we don’t even know if he can handle the AHL. Kolosov is far from a bluechip prospect imo. If he comes back, good. If not… whatever.

  3. Ok so we’re all gonna just keep pretending Fedotov doesn’t exist? Are we already throwing him under the bus?

28 years old, years of experience in arguably the second best league in the world for hockey, 6’8 but still quick plus great puck handling…

    What am I missing here?

  4. I also think some sort of 3 way deal with Askarov going to Anaheim and Gibson coming here and us sending one of our 3 young Gs to Nashville might be interesting. Would be nice to have some stability while we try to develop the others.

2 years of Gibson would be a decent segue into whoever is the next guy. Gibson deserves better and maybe we just wanna be bad this year but goalie is a huge question mark going into this year.

I could see Anaheim pushing their clock back a bit in net as they have been doing with the team and Nashville should be interested in a lesser prospect. Not sure what the other pieces would be to even it out all around.

We’re probably not interested though and are just gonna roll with what we got. I don’t miss questionable goaltending and it’s gonna be tough if all our trendies shit the bed constantly like the end of last season. Maybe it’s for the best though.

  5. This all feels like doing a ton of gymnastics simply to be the team that gets the hot name on the market. Sort of like, you tell yourself “Whatever happens, I want Askarov on this team” and then you twist yourself in ten different directions to convince yourself it’s a good move.

Whatever is going on with Kolosov is seemingly unresolved right now. The team went to great lengths to get Fedotov over here, it would be a bad look to trade him or bury him after a couple NHL games. The team is still learning what they have in Ersson. Is it really smart to play goalie musical chairs to acquire another guy who, while highly regarded as a prospect, is unproven at the NHL level?

And that’s not to mention the most important factor: this team has more important holes to address at center and on defense, and *that* is where their focus should be. A rebuilding team shouldn’t be prioritizing the net until the pieces in front of the goalie are coming into focus. A great goalie behind a bad defense is less likely to win you a Cup than an average goalie behind a great defense. I hope Briere prioritizes building a great defense and forward group, and lets goaltending serve as the final piece of the puzzle.

  6. Everyone wants Askarov, of course he’s great.

The rumoured price to get him according to Elliot Friedman is “an established NHL player that makes sense for their roster, or a “high ceiling prospect-preferably a forward or a defenceman”

The prospect going the other way is a flat no. We don’t have many (if any other than Michikov) “high ceiling” prospects, and any we have should be off the table.

A established roster player? Guys like Farabee, Tipett, maybe could get it done. (Not sure on farabee).

But what Nashville needs is a 2C (unless they make stammer go back to center). We don’t have the guy to give there.
