  1. Honestly this reads like a bunch of nonsense. We have been in the mix for every big name on the market many times and look where that’s gotten us. Trying to use that against Arte like he’s cheap and won’t pay star players is disingenuous. There’s many things to be mad at him about, but that’s not one of them.

  2. We aren’t a Soto or Burnes away from competing, unfortunately. And honestly spending a ton of money has got us absolutely nowhere.

Hopefully Arte stays out of the way and lets Minasian cook. Nothing else has worked, so fuck it.

  3. I honestly don’t want anymore superstars near the Angels. I still haven’t recovered from this team wasting the last two generational talents.

  4. Perry knows what he’s doing. I do believe they’ll be spenders this off-season. Did Blum forget that Arte wanted to go after Tre Turner? We have the money. Perry is just waiting for the right time to spend it

  5. sam is a very critical guy, but i personally find him a good reporter/writer.

however, i don’t quite understand this idea that we should spend on the marquee free agents. we’ve done that. the underlying issue is – and always has been our lack of depth.

so many seasons floundered due to long-term injuries and nobody competent to back up the starters.

what’s the point of signing juan soto, corbin burnes, if there’s not a lot there to back them up if they have to miss time?

like sam says, the team needs to spend on facilities and coaches who can help develop our minor league roster.

  6. I’m genuinely baffled at what the plan is going to be for SPs next year. This FA class is looking thin which means the prices are going to be high. Besides Soriano, who can we say we trust to be in this rotation for next year and look competent.

  7. March of 2023 The Athletic quoted Arte:

    >We’ve given basically an unlimited budget to try and build our minor-league system.

Which Fletcher from from OCR asks if that means a blank check. Arte responds:

    >I don’t want to say blank check. Let’s put it this way, I haven’t said no to anything.

    Statement from Arte today:

    >We have been impressed by the steps Perry has taken to infuse our major league team with young and exciting talent while also revamping our player development process.

    Alternatively, Blum writes

    >…worst spring training facilities and a low budget to fill one of the smallest organizational infrastructures.

A week or so ago, someone from AZ shared a picture of the Spring Training facilities under construction as it goes through renovations (no mention of that in this article).

To me, this is the most frustrating part of being a fan. It is like being in the middle of a bad relationship. You have reporters saying one thing, FO saying another. Naturally, with the results on the field and the farm system talent, we all take the reporters’ side until there is evidence otherwise.

But why doesn’t the FO defend itself? If Arte is saying he does whatever Perry wants and talks about revamps why don’t they provide examples? It’s not just BS if they are renovating the Spring Training complex.

Also, as others have said, we are not a Soto and/or a Burnes away from competing. We basically had that with Ohtani and never cracked .500. Dumb take. Not sure why this is so hard for Sam to understand but you build the team around young talent, when we are a piece or two away from a WS, then you open the checkbook and get someone.

  8. Sounds like you need to take a breather and maybe kick a soccer ball at a picture of the author!
