  1. Was this the expected outcome? I feel like offer sheets are a bit hard to predict, but I’m surprised the Oilers didn’t see value in keeping Holloway seeing as he’s still only 22.

  2. I honestly don’t even care about the Stan bowman stuff.

We need to see these sort of transactions more. Make teams make moves.

I want to see the Utah hockey club offer sheet Bedard for $13 mil if it actually gets to that point

  3. Maximum chaos but this is absolutely the right move. You’ve now got what will probably be an early second and an early third that you can use to improve the team instead.

  4. I’m happy my team is getting some short contract support when we had plenty of money to work with. With the added potential of resigning them in the future of they fit the team well.

It’s been fascinating to watch the drama where Edmonton has been angry at the blues for the offer sheets, fully confident they’d keep them both, then eventually letting us know we overpaid and talking down their now past players for moving to a “shit team”.

We know we’re overpaying, we can afford it right now.

  5. Now Spector is going to have to revise his oilers masterclass article from yesterday… quick!

  6. It’s sad to see them go but I hope they do well over there. Get that bag you two o7

  7. I think they see them as minor cogs in a wheel and easily replaced. Once Nurse is moved they will have 9 trillion in cap space

  8. wow from a Stanley cup legit team playing with McDavid to playing in St. Lous, what a down grade.

  9. Wild that Bowman let both of them go. I guess he did never let prospects grow in Chicago either before he shipped them out

Crazy he didn’t keep Broberg though. A defence who’s only good sample size is in playoffs is exactly right up Bowmans ally. That’s the kind of deal where he signs them for 9.5 million for 8 years.

  10. Man Reddit’s opinion on the Oilers has been WILD in the past few months.

Mid season : They are so done, you can’t win with 2 guys, tear it down.

New coach, streak of victories : Look who’s back!

Access the final : Lord McDavid will end Canada’s drought!

3-0 final : They are a disgrace, getting swept in the final.

3-3 : The prophecy, the impossible, this is the moment
    !
Loss : Lol what a fluke, Conn Smythians Perry-cursed losers.

Free agents : Wow what an offseason, they are the favourite for next year !

Bowman : They are dead to us.

Offersheet : Lol Blues go brrr and steal your lil boys.

  11. I love all the Oilers F’d up comments. This is the reality of a contending team. Just because we over paid Nurse doesn’t mean we should do it again. And at the time of Nurse’s signing that was the going rate for him based on other sigings plus losing Klefbom and Larsson, so you can say what you want but it was really the only choice we had in the situation.

Lets not forget that we wen’t from 28th in the league to Stanley Cup Finals in 5 years, there are going to be sacrifices that have to be made especially in a flat cap with 2 of the top 4-5 players in the league.

Shake your head people this was the right move in the situation we are currently in.

  12. Do the players initially have to accept the offer sheets once presented? Or do they have no say in what happens?

  13. The fact the Broberg contract was ever in discussion to be matched is a bit shocking to me. Guy wasn’t even a lineup regular, giving him 4 mill is nuts

  14. Idgi. Were these two players supposed to be instrumental for the Oilers? I see a lot of mixed reactions from Oilers fans so I don’t know.

  15. Oilers’ roster is objectively weaker than a week ago. Especially on defence, which wasn’t their strength last year.

Podkolzin can’t make the cut in Vancouver, but he’s going to be an everyday player in Edmonton? Or at worst (for him) the 13th forward? And depth wasn’t a strong point for the Oilers last year either.

Cap space is nice, but especially this year all the best FAs were gobbled up on July 1st.

  16. I don’t get the outcry and negativity that came with Armstrong offering contracts to 2 Oilers players last week. They were restricted free agents and the Oilers had the opportunity to match one or both of them. Heck they could have signed them before any other team even made an offer and avoided this. What am I missing?
