Nashville Trades Askarov to the San Jose Sharks

This is a decent trade for both sides, and gives San Jose a future starting goaltender.

  1. Askarov is still pretty raw. I'm still not sold on him but I hope this works out for GM Grier and the SJS

For that reason, I'm giving the early win to the guy who solved the biggest problem i.e GM Trotz

  2. Very tidy piece of work for Grier. And this deal makes sense for Nashville as well since Askarov wasn't gonna be getting very many NHL games any time soon with Saros' extension.

  3. I don't watch season previews in August. Because so much can change in August up until training camp. People care about previews that discuss players that are actually on the team.

  4. I know you dont redo previews, but a fair amount has happened in San Jose now that maybe some sort of "how bright is the future in San jose" video would make sense? Idk I'm not the Youtuber, but I would be interested to know how your opinion has changed (if at all) on SJ

  5. San Jose fans have to be licking their chops. Grier got them a long term goalie, without giving up much at all. As I mentioned last week, Trotz is not a smart individual, talent wise. Great move for the Sharks. This will expedite them moving up 2 to 3 years faster. I wonder what the Canadiens offered?

  6. You didn't touch on it, but currently the condition on the 1st is it's the worst between SJ's and Vegas's. Logic dictates that it'll be Vegas's, but I think making that point is a sign by Grier that he believes that San Jose could be MUCH better than last year. Even if it's not realistic, if the goal is for management to show confidence in the squad, this is a way to do it, to say, "Hey, there's a chance we do better than Vegas this year."

  7. a bit bummed as a preds fan. askarov should have a higher ceiling than Saros, bobrovsky, vasilievsky, shesterkin…if not better. So expected like 2 first round picks. He will be great in Sharks. New Nabokov.

  8. Exciting times. The rebuild is almost complete. They got their star goalie, their star D-man, and a slew of star forwards. Now just some depth and a couple years of growing pains and they should be a wild card team.
