KENT HUGHES FLEECING FOR PATRIK LAINE – REACTION TO TRADE PACKAGE

I love the trade, i dont see how it's a risk for Montreal at all, if they just traded Harris, they'd likely get a 2nd round pick, they wouldnt get a 1st for sure, PLUS they got Patrik laine, i know we have to take on the whole salary, but we had the cap space. If it doesnt work out, it's 2 years, by the time his contract is up, so will all our bad contracts, like Gallagher, Price, Armia. IF Laine and Caufield can score 40 goals, it'll be the first time we've had multiple 40 goal guys since 1979-1980. It's been 44 years! I wasn't excited for the year to start at all, we had the exact same team we had last year, NOW im excited!!! I think laine can return to 40 goals. He hopefully will fit right in with Suzuki and Caufield, it seems like it would be easy to be friends with Cole, he's always smiling! lol. He he fits in the room well, then it shows on the ice. Let's go Habs!!!
Celebrating now!!! 🎆
Patrik couldn't get along with teammates in Winnipeg or Columbus. "IF" he stays healthy, he's missed more than half his games the last four years. He reminds me of a baseball player the Blue Jays couldn't get rid of fast enough, Alex Rios. Rios was overpaid and his talent seduced many suitors, but at the end of the day, Rios like Laine, was overpaid and overhyped. In two years, Montreal fans will be glad to be rid of him.
This not a fleecing at all. Laine has been a source of problems on every NHL teams he played for. It is a gamble.
Is it that much of a steal for a 50 point guy who’s often injured and has mental issues?
Montreal just keeps doing everything right!
SUOMI!!
Montreal should ask themselves if they will make the playoffs with this trade. If the answer is no, then it’s a huge gamble and will affect their cap space for 2 years. We have to trade more players because of this. Just keep in mind slafs contract will kick in next year. Also, we picked demidov in the top 5 for a reason. I don’t think we are close to be in the playoffs because of laine. Just my honest opinion
Bro, slaf is in the top line.. 3rd line?? Nope !
Absolutely amazing move, low risk high reward. If he doesnt pan out we let him walk in two years in free agency and only lost Harris a dman who is about 7th on the depth chart for habs lol
Kent Hughes has become YzerFleece 2.0
Laine v Matthews just got real
..if..if..if..for the highest paid Hab..Laine good playoffs possible..Laine bad…?
It was NEVER about the trade it was abotu the contract and Laine is over paid. Laine has NEVER been more than MAYBE at best a 30 goal scorer since not having Wheeler and Scheiflie to make him look better than he really is.CLB management is celebrating getting rid of a big contract player that is well beyond his best production.I stated PRODUCTION because he has never been a good player not even in Winnipeg and why he eventually was moved OFF the top line so he has NEVER been a good player.
Montreal becomes a little more unlikable. Truthfully it has not been so easy to dislike them ever since the Leafs won a cup for them wearing Habs sweaters. This will help.
Wouldn’t call paying 7 mill for an unhealthy mentally and physically guy who if he plays 40 games in a year without losing his smile and needing to go cry to someone a fleece.
Whoa false news. Hes been in Winnipeg market and thats huge. And he trived there… He had no one in Columbus… Now he has some decent linemate
Thank goodness Sabres didn't get involved for PL.
to much of a cap hit for Laine but if he scores over 35-40 goals ? then its good..but if he gets like 20 goals and 35 assists? then its a terrible cap hit..seems like a good move because Montreal needed to get bigger up front
You gotta wonder why the guys been on 3 teams in the last 5 yrs. He obviously doesn't love hockey anymore? Maybe he finds it in MTL? But saying that he has top 10 potential is a huge stretch for this guy. He's never been quite the same player since his sophomore season; when the jets lost to vegas in the conference. He's had two great coaches teaching him in torts and Maurice. It's hard to make any more excuses for him if he fails under St.Louis. What it comes down to is, hes gotta have love for the game and he might have lost that when his father passed. Best of luck Patrik, no one has the PP one timer like you 🚀
The fact that Laine was basically given away for free, I would worry if I was a Montreal. Good gamble for Montreal.
Laine ain't worth a bag of pucks. One dimensional player. Always injured. Mentally weak. Columbus won this trade…big time!
Montreal is stacked! Let’s hope most Canadian teams make the playoffs and we finally get 2 Canadian clubs in the finals.
I’d like to see Liane, Dach, Armia on a line for a few games. 3 big boys
There was no fleecing. Columbus was desperate to offload that cap hit. No other team was willing to take on his contract. By default, Montreal didn't have to offer much to get him. Still, dont think he will do much of anything playing Montreal.
Kovalev trade 2.0 !!
Laine – Suzuki – Roy, Caufield – Dach – Slafkovski, Armia – Newhook – Anderson
I'm old enough to remember the Habs dynasty. I would love to see them as favourites again, year after freakin' year!
Laine is gonna sink Montreal. Poor attitude gonna effect whole team.
Slaf-Suzuki-Caufield Laine-Newhook-Dach
If anything Laine might get Coles spot on top line. Laine can play top lines. Cole is still just a kid, could use a little pressure taken off.
Dach, Slav and Laine
Mtl will still be a bottom feeder. Nobody on that roster is anything special.
The fact there is still Aatos Koivu and Oliver Kapanen out there if Montreal needs centers…
Montreal was the only team that was willing to take on the full cap hit, thus the sweetener of a 2nd round pic that should be somewhere between 34-38th overall in 2026.

I wouldn’t call it a fleece! That’s a massive amount of cap that just opened up for Columbus. Come trade deadline that’s two to three first rounders worth of space. My main worry about laine is if he can handle the media and fans in that huge market.
