The bigger issue is what is this locker room issue that Laine referred to? If it wasn't cleansed by the new regime & coach, that means it still exists w this player core.
I still can't see David Jiricek on the top line yet with Werenski. I'd like to see him with Gudbranson to start the season then move up once he's shown he can use his physicality we know he has. I'm hoping his lack of physicality last season was due to coaching direction from Pascal and Company and not David being hesitant for fear of injury.
Habs fan here, you are getting a fantastic person in Jordan Harris, he will be an amazing ambassador for the team, steady on the ice, quality person!
I’m happy this drama is finally over with. Players like him and PLD don’t belong here. They both act like they’re on some McDavid status or something. Facts are facts. Individually, they’re not that great at all. They need a forceful supporting cast in order to shine. This trade was 100% necessary. And it was a decent one imo. Didn’t retain salary and got a solid defenseman out of it. All Laine was doing was taking up space and money.
Would not be surprised to see the CBJ look to trade one of either Severson, or Provorov. Might be a little late for that now, and maybe that waits till the trade deadline.
Harris fits the model that Waddell seems to love. Excellent skaters.
To be fair Laine has either been on pace for 30 goals or has scored 30+ goals in 6 out of the 8 years of his career… Laine hasn’t scored 40 goals
In a while, But with his age and skill if he’s healthy 40 goals is a likely outcome… Now would he put up those numbers in Columbus while being miserable all the time no, But he still was on pace for 30+ goals two seasons in a row with Columbus, Imagine what he will be when he gets to a team where he’s happy and healthy… I still think Columbus did a good job with what they had… they didn’t want to retain and this is the return you get, Apparently two other teams were offering a little more but with retention…
Personally I think Jordan Harris has second pairing upside… He’s a very very smart player, I would not be surprised to see him having top 4 upside, It’s just Montreal has too much D with the same or more upside… you also got a locker room stud! This kid is way more mature than people realize.
It's an exelent trade from ownership and money point of view, from every other view it ranges from bad to fireable.
In hindsight, the fact that Dubois and Laine were at one time, traded for each other, is pretty funny. I think this is "fine" for both teams. People assume that Harris is of lower value, but we have to wait and see how Laine performs to determine that. Hopefully, he shoots the lights out, but if not, it could end up being a pretty fair trade, in the end. There are questions on both sides.
From a Habs fan, Harris for a second round pick is a fair trade in itself. Harris was 5th on the depth chart for the left side. Possibly could have ended up on waivers at the end of training camp. He was often a healthy scratch last year. So Laine come in for free. No risk for Montreal and a big potential. Money does not matter. Habs have the cap space and they print money.
The Blue Jackets were not trading from a position of force because they had an expensive player who didn't want to be there anymore.
They also didn't want to retain any salary so they had to add a "sweetener" (2nd round pick) in order to get a deal done … Laine doesn't come without risk so Montreal wanted something to make it worth their while for taking on that big contract.
I think it's the best they could do in the circumstances as there are not many teams that have the cap space to accomodate Laine on their payroll.
Harris is excellent, always very good underlying numbers in MTL, high hockey IQ, great skater.
Habs fan here Jordan Harris is a class act your fans we love him.he has not reached his potential. Your manager could have done better deals but wouldn’t take any of the salary. So Why not he has plans for the money. To judge just wait to see what Waddel has planned.
I can tell you you got a fine 3rd pair defenseman and a really good person. Columbus had to cut ties with Laine and move on. He still was dealing with issues and that was reflected while playing for Colombus. New beginnings for both teams and more importantly for Patrick. I can guarantee you the Habs will except him as a player without changing his core talent
Has a Habs fan i can say that you Will have an excellent défense Man he can do everything good on the Ice very fast and mobile also he Will NEVER be a top 4 defense but certainly a no5 or 6 for sure i will miss the person he's a very genuine person very intelligent person and a very good teamate you Will certainly not have any problem with him in the locker room you really need those kind of players to fill your core group
Harris was traded for CBJ's 2nd round pick. Laine was basically just given away for nothing.
As Homer for the Jets, I would say they did quite a bit better than "okay" with respect to ditching the cancer known as Pierre Luc-Dubois. Most analysts objectively feel they took L.A. to the cleaners. CBJ was in a similar position with Laine, as he's now thought of by many as a bit of a head case. Montreal is going to rehab his worth and dump him much like they did with Sean Monahan. Seems like Montreal is content with perpetual asset building, remains to be seen how the fans react to the never ending rebuild.
Hi also habs fan here I see a lot of not a top 4 but solid third pair defenseman but i will argue that harris can be a solid 4 in a pair with an offensive partner. He wont be THE guy on his line but he's perfect to cover for a partner more offense focus
You will love him but like you said dont expect offensive flash
Harris is a solid middle pair d man, he can eat some good minutes, and rarely makes mistakes, dont sell him short til u see him. Give him a chance, u might be surprised.
As a habs fan i hurt seeing him go,but we have like 6 LHD in Montreal,Lane Hutson should start the season.Marty St-Louis could help Laine. if he's scoring 25,it's already a W for us. Hope Jordan thrives in Columbus, best luck to him
Yea he's right, but he does politics, that's what I didn't like about him, I hope he puts i
Up 30points for ya, because Patrik Laine is going to score 40 goals
I don't really know anything about Harris, but it may have been worth it for the Bluejackets just to part ways with a guy who doesn't want to be in Columbus anymore and his entire $8.5-million salary. If the Jackets were a legitimate post-season threat going into 2024-2025 season, then I'd maybe have issues with this trade but I don't. To me this is just the GM getting a job done. Will the Jackets spend that newly found cap money? Maybe, maybe not, but it does give them some financial flexibility should they want to bring someone in.
As for Laine, in general, I am very unhappy with anyone who doesn't want to stay on my favorite team. I generally will root against them and give them a not so warm welcome if I see a game in person, that they are in. In Laine's case however, I don't feel this way. Laine was in the player assistance program and I can fully understand him wanting a fresh start in a new place coming out of that program. I really hope the move works out for him and that he succeeds in Montreal. I just hope he doesn't play well against the Jackets 🙂
