  1. I posted a comment about an hour ago but didn’t mention that Kent seems to have resolved any animosity with Waddell that resulted from the Aho offer sheet by Bergevin. Another thought is could part of this deal be that Columbus took Lindstrom at 4 so that Demidov was available to the Habs at 5 in the entry draft?

  2. Firstly, sad to see Jordan Harris go but we all knew there was a log jam on D especially on the left side so this is a good opportunity for Jordan. As for the trade itself…it's a good one for both teams. Columbus rids itself of an unhappy player with a hefty $$ contract while adding a young smart Dman in Harris who can get more consistent ice time…and Mtl gets an enigmatic but high reward player as well as the sweetner of a potentially high 2nd round pick in 2026 (that can also be used in future trades). Many might say Waddell got fleeced by Hughes but let's remember, Columbus had few options with Laine's trade request, $8.7mil contract for 2 more yrs and Laine's no trade list. The concern for Habs fans should be having such a big personality and often injured player who does not have the greatest character resume step into a tightly knit but still young Habs dressing room. Altho Laine seems to have convinced Hughes, Gorton & MSL during their pre-trade "talk"…it remains to be seen if we will see a more mature Laine or a Laine who will be often injured and become a disruption. Laine definitely said the right things in his presser but don't all newly traded/arriving players to a new team? Yes I'm a tad skeptical BUT, Mtl is always starving for a superstar…and within a couple months Hughes has managed to draft Demidov and trade for Laine…so good job Hughes! I still have concerns over the MSL Habs defensive system if there is one, however, if Mtl can now win more of those 1 goal games we use to lose in the past and fans can get more entertaining games, I think HuGo and MSL and fans will be quite happy. Side note, Hughes needs to get Saku Koivu to make a visit during training camp so he can watch his son during rookie camp and so he can have a nice chat with Laine who seems to have Saku in high regard. Go Habs Go!

  3. This is going to be an unpopular opinion. But I think you put Laine Dach Armia on a line. Ginormous line to play against. Last hurrah for Armia

  4. This is no brainer acquisition , Thank god they did this deal rather than go after Zegress , I mean, the cost of acquiring ziggers would have been 3 times the price. And in two years, Anderson Gallagher Devorak are off the books with plenty of cap space money left to we'll and deal for what ever they need, were now going to 🎉a chance this seaon for a wild card spot . Mister superman Kent huge did it again.. hands down montreal won this deal even if it doesn't work out we got a second rounded pick for a Third round pick.

  5. I'm not that crazy about acquiring Laine for several reasons, even though the cost to get him was tiny. For me, the biggest RED FLAG for Laine is not his atrocious defensive numbers. It's NOT that that in 9 seasons, he's only played a full 82 game season, twice. It's NOT that he was in the NHL Player Assistance Program. My biggest red flag with Laine is that he has basically QUIT on not one, but TWO teams (Jets and Bluejackets) How long will it be before Laine starts complaining about Montreal and wants out? How long? Laine, when healthy, hasn't even produced at a "point-per-game" level, so can somebody tell me just how "elite" he is? I don't see it. He scored 44 goals ONE time, and has only gotten 30 or more goals twice in 9 seasons. And answer me this….WHY was the price to acquire Laine SOOOO low? Cuz other GM's see all the red flags and lack of defensive play, injuries and a bad attitude, and didn't want to have a guy like that on their team. Is he really the player the Habs want in their room, influencing the young core? Can he turn things around? Of course he can and maybe….JUST maybe it can be in Montreal. As a Habs fan, I really do hope he can improve his play and attitude, but he WON'T be the saviour a lot of fans think he will be.

  6. Laine IMO had substance abuse issues for the same reason that Price did – big injuries! If he stays healthy, he should be a great addition for us. Furthermore, if Marty can keep him grounded and coach him to play a 2 way game instead of just floating on D, then it will a GOAT trade by Kent

  7. Amazing video! My exact thoughts. So excited for this deal, Kent Hughes is an absolute wizard. This can turn out being an absolute incredible trade if he can get healthy. Easy 30-40 goals

  8. Im not convinced Laine can get back to 40 goals. I think 20 goals is more realistic. Moving surplus in Harris for what will likely be a top 40 pick in 2026 is really good asset managenent. 😁

  9. If Dach is healthy this upcoming season, I was hoping to see the Habs make the playoffs. But now that Laine is coming over, that doubles my expectations. If this trade pans out, Kent pulled off one hell of a move. And if things go well the next 2 seasons, I don't see why Laine wouldn't want tp resign here. I can't wait for training camp to start!

  10. It's a great move. A scoring winger capable of putting home 40 goals when not ill is a great addition, even more so when you have a first trio of core forwards locked up long term on reasonable money and thus the newcomer is part of a one-two punch plan! I really hope that some subset of Roy, Newhook and Dach will find the chemistry with him, they're all pretty creative and Laine is a trademark finisher at least when he's not clinically depressed (and a boost of confidence from being coached by someone like Marty St Louis can go a long way with that regard…)

I return, the Habs payed with one middle of the peloton young D-man of whom they currently have so many that it created a minor logjam, and a cap hit bite for two years. Perfectly affordable, even if Laine didn't pan out in the end they would still basically have got a 2nd round pick out of thin air.
