Edmonton Oilers Refused To Match St. Louis Blues’ Offer Sheets to Phillip Broberg & Dylan Holloway
The Edmonton Oilers refused to match the offer sheets the St. Louis Blues sent out to Phillip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. Haley Taylor Simon talked about the craziness that took place in the hockey world. The news went public a week ago about the offer sheets, and the Oilers had until today to make a decision. With Edmonton’s cap space situation it came at no surprise that they weren’t able to match the offer sheets. Phillip Broberg and Dylan Holloway spoke to the Blues’ media about becoming the newest members of the Blues and what this week was like for them. Doug Armstrong also said some interesting things about the direction of this young team.

Was this a good move for the St. Louis Blues??
Great move
Brilliant move by Armstrong. And he gave them a bit more so they could save face. This would be one of the best trades in a decade. Broberg and Holloway for a second, two thirds and the tights to Fischer. Now the Blues definitely have the depth for a playoff push.
Size, speed, youth, good to great hands gives blues great depth now. No down side at this point plus springfield just got better with the overload of forwards now.
Good job blues
Sincerely
Vancouver
as a Oilers fan I'm pissed they didn't match either, this is a fleecing by the Blues GM
Jeff Jackson is blaming Holland for not signing both during last season, but if he hadn't re-signed Corey Perry he'd have had the cap space to sign both at numbers they were happy with before the offer sheets were made. If the Oilers value other teams over the hill players over their own prospects, who can blame the pair for taking better offers from a team that wanted them?
Hopefully they can live up to the pressure of the contracts, because they both definitely have promise.
ST. LOSERS have always been Oilers jock sniffers…. while ditching hall of famers. Hull, Oates, Pronger, Gretz, Fuhr Stevens, Joseph…. suxckers.
Broberg was suppose to see top 4 minutes this year.
Yes, we had to overpay for both guys. Given where they are in their development, the Oilers were pretty much on target on their offers to each of them; however, there were other factors, Broberg was blocked for quite some time, had free agents signed that reduced his opportunities. There are many other factors, but toss in a 4+MIL offer, that's the deal he could not say no to. It was a very strong play by Army.
Goodness. Think of the competition that's coming. We have Buch, Kyrou, Thomas, Saad, Schenn, Neighbors in top 6, then add Texier, Joseph and Faksa next 3. The 3rd and 4th lines will be tough to break into. Bolduc certainly played well at the end of last year so he's going to be pushing for time. Add Zach Dean, Kapanen, Sundquist, Toropchenko, Walker and don't forget Divorski. It's going to be fun to watch next month.
Wish them both well in St .Louis, in the end neither player was happy with their situation in Edmonton or they would not have signed the offer.
lol i think the Oil let em walk as they decided to challenge edmonton to thier worth, guess they were not worth it, plus the oil fans have alot a patience with the players and they seem quiet nonchelante about it…
Doug Armstrong and the Blues Mothers pull it off.
Blues better take care of Jake Neighbours before seasons end…Blues have put a target on themselves for an offer sheet. I'm not saying they couldn't match it, but it might cost you a heap more than you thought
I'm an Oil fan and I really like both players, but not at $7M on a veteran team in their Cup window. I hope it works out for the Blues and the players, we'll be watching with interest.
Do you know why Armstrong gave away a prospect and a 3rd rounders for whatever future considerations is?
