  1. Marty’s job is very safe. It is not possible for him to be fired this year. Next it’s possible maybe but this year I think even if they ended dead last he wouldn’t be fired

  2. It feels like covid is the best thing to happen to the Habs. Their playoffs drought should have been as long as the Senators', but they squeezed in the playoffs in 2020 because of covid (and stunned the Penguins) and again benefited from a weak, seven team division to make the playoffs in 2021 and somehow reached the finals.

It's easy to think Habs fans are a lot more patient towards the rebuild with the Finals run memories still relatively fresh on their mind. But I don't know how long they will keep this positive attitude

  3. Montreal was 20-36 in regulation last season and 10-16 after regulation last season. They have a long way to go to being a playoff team, and I don't think they're going to make much progress next season.

  4. Price won’t go LTIR. They’ll paper some dudes to AHL and can carry Price’s contract for the season so they don’t have to use the LTIR.

  5. If newhook is on 3rd line he’s center with Armia and Gally that line was clicking. Anderson will need to get himself together on 4th line. Dvorak and Evan with him (poor bastards)

  6. Based on the line-up we could be looking at a worse season than even 2021-22 and that's saying something. I fear we're going to end up in an endless rebuild like Buffalo, Ottawa, Detroit, I'm not hopeful to say the least.

  7. Habs fan. Montreal showed last season that they're a tough beat, and they should be better than last year this season. As for playoffs? Probably still under 50/50, but I suspect that you wouldn't be as shocked if they make it than you would have been last season. I'm going to make a bold prediction that Montreal spends several weeks in the top half of your power rankings.

  8. To me, this is the make or break year for Dach, and it's not fair since he hasn't played a full season in… ever? But the clock is on for that 2nd C slot, and if Dach can't take it or gets injured again… Do the Habs think about Demidov at center?

  9. Unless we take a step back I think Coach Marty's job is safe for another year. It'd be disappointing to be in the same spot a year from now but sometimes development doesn't work out how you hope & an injury or two can derail things.

  10. The team they have assembled makes me wish the season starts tomorrow. I'm not expecting huge things this season, but it feels like the rebuild should be complete next season.

  11. They were in a lot of close games last year and went in OT 26 times for a record of 10-16 with no 2nd line center, i feel like Dach and Laine can tip the scale.

  12. can't wait for good playoff games against the bruins as well. we have a long shot chance of making the post season if we stay healthy. i can't see a scenario where st-louis gets moved for at least another two to three seasons

  13. To be perfectly honest, I think Montreal has a very legitimate chance to do something similar to what the Devils did 2 seasons ago and make a big leap up the standings when no one expected it. The signs are all there, the compete, the locker room attitude, the player progression. Having watched most of their games last year, they were very very close to winning a good 10-15 more games than they actually did which would have put them right in the thick of the wildcard race.

  14. To me (Habs fan). This is probably the most fun season in the rebuild. They hadn't gotten the type of talent/potential you need out of tanking seasons yet, but I think Demidov (+ others) means they can be better without handicapping their rebuild now. That means this year is just about ebjoying the games and cheering on the young guys. It's a rare window where I'm not invested in winning or losing. They obviously aren't at a point to compete yet, and you no longer have to be worried about them ruining their draft position anymore.

If they still stink and draft high again, great. If they're better and closer to a playoff spot, great. It's all entertainment this year, zero stress.

  15. The objective is we make the playoffs not next season but the one after that. Potentially, this is a young, talented group with a high ceiling. Is it possible that both Caufield and Laine score 40, that Dach stays healthy all year, and that Hutson plays like a Calder nominee? Yes. Is it likely? Not really. It’s realistic to hope the will fight for a playoff spot for a lot longer. As for St. Louis, his job is safe unless there’s some drama happening.
