Brenden Schaeffer discusses the Cardinals loss to the Padres on Monday at Busch Stadium in front of a light, light crowd. The lack of a vibe in the stadium immediately caught the eye of the opposing broadcast crew, who commented upon it during the first batter of the game.

It’s getting undeniable that the Cardinals organization is in a decline. It seems more and more people are noticing. Can the Cardinals right this ship down the final weeks of the season?

  1. The ownership and the management and the front office really suck. I would hate to be a player on this team right now knowing that management is not going to change.
The definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over again and expect him different results.

"I'm not going to lose with the same faces twice."
    Vincent Lombardi

They brought up Luken Baker and have mainly let him sit on the bench. All I can do is shake my head.

  2. Everyone screaming need the best hitters in the lineup then why was Pades not in the lineup over the last 7 or 15 or 30 games he has the highest average and the last 7 his stats are 421 average 450 onp 579 slg

  3. LISTON, I get if we had a team that is not all that great on paper doing bad (we had our success stories) but we haven’t won a World Series since 2011 and we barely won that game 6 freeze up. But on paper this would have been a great team NL mvp goldy, amazing Arenado, offensively great Wilson contreas, Tommy edman who usually has a better ERA. Donovan getting good hits and on base. A home run hitting Carlson and Gorman and they have ALL under performed and not just a little but badly. Goldy NEVER would swing at pitches outside the zone like this. Something is wrong with him leaving u with only two offensive players that are interesting Alec Burleson and mason winn. Maybe if you play him Luken baker but pitching we thought would be bad this year but keeping mikolas and matz was always a bad decision lynn just is not the same and gibson started okay but he has gotten worse and Sonny gray same thing most interestingly enough libertore fits well as reliever Helsley is lucky that he doesn’t ruin the game when he wins because he always makes it close and pallante isn’t bad but no. Offense really we should have at least have a 90 win season maybe 88-89 because of harsh ending schedule but this is inexcusable

  4. Question: Once again the Cards called up a minor leaguer and dont start him…why is Baker on the team if they wont start him? Cant be any worse that Goldy… This is just a bad, boring team.

  5. Gibson and Lynn both need to be sent packing. We need to rebuild the staff and two over the hill, mediocre pitchers won't cut it. If someone will take Matz with us eating $6-7 million of his $11 million then he needs to go. We're stuck with Miles and his ridiculous salary. Of course if Mo is still in place he'll keep Matz and pick up Gibson's option and sling out these retreads one more time.

  6. At this point I almost hope they tank for a high draft pick. The problem with that is player development sucks. Also everyone that leaves does great and everyone that comes here suddenly sucks. Frustrating!!!!!!

  7. The lack of attendance is sad but not really shocking. And I do not blame anyone who decides to spend their hard earned money elsewhere. But I can't help but feel for the those this will have a trickle down effect on, the workers and surrounding businesses. As someone who has worked concessions (not at Busch) to raise funds for a 501c, I hope the org can do something to bring the energy back into this fan base for next season. The city needs it.

  8. There were a bunch of content creators who raged at fans skeptical of the SP and were told “eh, they just need innings eaters”.

Whenever you’re constantly pitching from behind in games you’re just not gonna win very much.

Great job, sir, it’s easy to read when you’re thinking!

  9. Very boring offense and mostly poor ancient starters is a recipe for disaster.
Mo and his evaluators have put a big chunk of payroll into too many #4 and #5 starters.
Now along with needing a top of the rotation starter they need 1 or 2 impact bats. Sadly Goldschmidt doesn't look like he has enough left to be what they have to have to drive this offense.

  10. Nothing will start to get better until Mo and Oli are gone. We all know they are going to inevitably be let go just end it after this year.

  11. Ok. When an organization or corporation has issues like the cardinals, which is disfunction throughout the organization all you have to do is look at the top of the organization. Dewitt isn’t holding MO accountable and Mo isn’t holding Oli accountable. Same thing with the minor leagues organization. Shit rolls downhill and the fans are seeing the results.

  12. I just hope the end up above a 500 team given last year and their current performance (which has improved slightly but still doesn't feel like enough) would like a decent draft choice if possible.

  13. Pleased with the effort, especially Victor and Donnie busting it on defense. Seems giving a player time to figure it out, coupled with excellent coaching, is a thing. Merrill had a sloooow start. Now on the road to ROY. Excellent at bats against Gibson and Libby. Thinking ownership made a fatal? error not moving the stadium/ballpark village to west county.

  14. The Cards have critical pitching and hitting issues for next season. Gray has not been pitching like a number 1, and to make things worse, Gray will earn $25 million in 2025 and $35 million in 2026. Mikolas has been as bad if not worse than Gray and is owed $17.5 million next season in 2025. Not to mention, Matz earned $12.5 million to start 6 games this season and is owed $12.5 million next season. You mentioned that starting pitching is ranked 23rd and looks bleak for next season, with all our starters 35 years or older (that's just some of the pitching problems, not Lance Lynn's age).

The Cards offensively are 24th in the league in total runs and RBIs. Cards are 22nd in stolen bases and slugging percentage, while only 20th in OPS. Goldy has 148 strikeouts and is hitting a .227 average and .670 OPS while making $26 million this season. Noot is hitting .232 and Carpenter is hitting .236. Burleson has more home runs than Goldy and Arenado ($24 million this season to hit 14 home runs).

In sum, the Cards are near the back of the pack in hitting and pitching, contributing to a team that is 65-66. The team sucks from top to bottom with a few bright spots, but what is even more disheartening is the farm system being ranked 22nd overall. The only way forward is a complete reboot in safe mode.

  15. If the Cardinals could win 22 more games of their 31 left which I doubt they could do they could maybe make the maybe get some new players that can play a little bit better
