There are a lot of awful things about the A’s playing in Sacramento, from Ranadive letting his good friend John Fisher gouge fans over season tickets to the woefully amateur setup. But it feels like the weather is something no one in the Athletics organization or Commissioner’s office wants to address.

Today is August 27 at Sutter Health Park. This time next year, the A’s will hypothetically be hosting the Detroit Tigers. This year is actually somewhat cool. I mean, it’s still hot. I wouldn’t want to be out being blasted by the sun for two to three hours as the heat index rises.

Yet that is what John Fisher and MLB want to take place. Professional baseball served with a heaving helping heat stroke. But hey, at least the concourse will have some misters. And for $9.99, you probably get yourself a souvenir A’s water bottle, one that will have no mention of Sacramento, mind you.

Oddly, Manfred and Fisher have downplayed how many times the A’s will have day games in Sacramento. Especially in June, July, and August when temperatures are soaring. But through some basic critical thinking, we can actually piece things together.

For starters, Sunday home games will be played during the day and there are seven of those in Sacramento in the scorching summer months. However, there will likely be some during the week, given every MLB team’s desire to not travel during off days. And really, baseball players don’t want to spend an extra night in the city.

  1. Oakland is better for ideal tempature, but unfortunately rampant with crime and corruption. The best solution would be Oakland getting their sh*t together and clean up the streets, making it more attractive for the Athletics to stay… but thats highly unlikely. Vegas is almost certainly going to fall through, so I imagine Sacramento or SLC will be the new home of the A's.

Edit: I think the St. Louis Cardinals will inevitably move for the same reason. It might be 10 or 20 years, but St. Louis isnt the attractive location it used to be. The owner's also an a-hol, making it all the more likely.

  2. No. I've been in the Eastern parts of the country when it is 80 degrees with 80 percent humidity. Sacramento in 95-105 degree weather is better. Quit fear-mongering. Baseball is supposed to be played in warm/hot weather

Artificial turf, of course, multiplies heat, that is a problem
