  1. i don’t think anyone can stress how many points samsonov lost us this season… and a series win.. but, leafs will be much better this year… samsonov is the definition of a ball and chain

  2. My opinion as a leafs fan Bert had a really hard time getting going so I personally don't think the scoring is going to be a huge difference especially if Robertson signs. But I do think they are going to be alot harder to get score on so even if they do have a bit of a drop in scoring I think the blue line will help them a lot

  3. Will see what happens.

I'd say this has to be a make or break season, but that's been the case for a while. if they can't break through this year then certainly that top 5 group in terms of scoring can't stay the same anymore.

  4. Sigh. Matthews gets ragged dolled in the past. Leaf bench looks on totally disinterested. My belief there has been and still is a total disconnect between the Leaf top guns and the rest of the team. Do not see team unity. Zero organization culture. Culture starts at the top. Boston is a great example of team culture.
The core 4 disappear in the playoffs with the exception of Nylander. Couple years back Don Cherry picked up Matthews was shooting far back during the playoffs. Not willing to put himself at risk? Possibly. Marner great player but can he handle his emotions? Hope Tavares finally gets paid what he is worth.
Morgan isn't going to lead the Leafs to a cup. His time has come and gone.
Leafs may make it to the final 4 but not cup final. 2025-26 and 2026-27 will be their best shot at a cup. This year is putting the pieces together for the next two years.

  5. I started watching and following the Leafs in the mid 70's so I know a thing or two about disappointment after all I lived through the Ballard years but even when he owned the team and tried his greatest to destroy a once vaunted team his 80's teams as pathetic as they were still won more playoff rounds than Toronto has since the 2004-05 lockout season. After Ballard kicked the bucket I thought we had a chance but fell short a couple of years and then again in the early 2000's but only winning one series in twenty years not to mention how many seasons in a row did we fail to even make the playoffs? It get's harder and harder to love the Leafs when year after year they fall far short. I don't care about Matthews scoring 70 if it means another quick exit from the playoffs, I would rather see him score zero goals and the Leafs win the cup.

  6. The Leafs need to move off from the core (read: Marner) and add more offensive and defensive depth. I love Marner as a player, but because of his contract situation he is the odd-man out that I feel needs to be moved. However, he holds all of the cards because of his NMC and I feel like they are either going to re-sign (and overpay) him or lose him for nothing in free agency. I like the team as a whole more than last season, but I do not think that they are good enough to win this year as they are currently cosntructed.

  7. The Leafs as currently constituted could win a cup. Not likely, but could happen if: 1.) The really good teams get upset in the early rounds leaving the Leafs the best team standing and, 2.) While the better teams are getting upset, the Leafs happen to get on a hot streak. In recent years they've had their 10-15-20 game hot streaks where they look as good as any team in the league. If these two things happen at the same time, then the Leafs can win a Stanley Cup.

  8. The regular season hasn't been an issue for the Leafs for some time now. It's always the playoffs, playoffs, playoffs. I think the Leafs need to face and finally defeat the Bruins in a playoff matchup. The Leafs defeating their archrivals would be instrumental on the path to playoff success.

  9. I dont like the leafs but this team will probably reach second or third round this year. Team got better by not having Samsonov lol. All the successes and failures will lie on Matthews now that he is the captain of the team. Addition of OEL and Tanev are massive to their backend. Im curious to see how McMann, Knies and Holmberg will perform this year as these will be their X-Factor players

  10. After this past OHL season, Easton Cowan will be playing in Toronto this year. He was so close to cracking the roster last year, then had an absolute breakout season with the Knights, earning Regular Season and Playoff MVP trophies, leading the CHL as a whole in points in the playoffs, leading the whole Memorial Cup tournament in points, leading the OHL in shorthanded goals, becoming more than a fan favourite in London, having a 42 game point streak at the end of the regular season and midway through the playoffs, and only missing one game due to an illness with no games missed for injuries

  11. I think the Leafs are likely to win the Atlantic Division this year, the Panthers will probably be gassed at the beginning of the season and I don't know if the Bruins will be as competitive with their new goaltending situation. That's of course assuming that some other team like the Red Wings or Habs doesn't shoot up the standings as well. Tanev is looking like he'll be a great addition as well, he was a warrior on the ice for Dallas.

  12. This coming season will not be any better than the last. The issues they've historically had remain. Despite the changes, they aren't really different. First round fail.

  13. One thing that I’m expecting is that Toronto would make it to the playoffs and get put out the first round again. I’m still not counting the win over Tampa Bay because that just seemed like a fluke.

  14. The regular season is going to matter this year when they miss the playoffs. The Leaf's were lucky at the beginning of the year last year winning by a single goal in OT or the shootout. That luck isn't going to carry over with this goaltending and aged blueline.

  15. leafs in 2017 : lets run it back
leafs in 2018 : lets run it back

leafs in 2019 : lets run it back

leafs in 2020 : lets run it back (fired coach back in nov 2019)

leafs in 2021 : lets run it back

leafs in 2022 : lets run it back

leafs in 2023 : lets run it back (fired GM in may 2023)

leafs in 2024 : lets run it back (fired coach in may 2024)

leafs in 2025 : lets run it back (fired president in may 2025)

  16. Nikita Grebyonkin is an interesting prospect for them coming over from the KHL. Plays LW too which they are suddenly really weak at. Idk I’m a leafs fan through and through but I’m not delusional. Changes needed to happen several years ago.

  17. This Leafs team has gotten stronger and better (apart from the forwards) offensively and defensively this year than last year. The Leafs acquired Chris Tanev and OEL to fix up the D-Core, Matthews was named captain of the Leafs, Breube is the Leafs next head coach, and Woll has a back up goalie in Storlez. I think this is the Leafs year to win the Stanley Cup. I am confident in this year's Leafs team. Let's go Leafs!

  18. If the PP didn't fall off in the last 20 games and into the playoffs, they'd have more than 1 series win. But still an unbalanced team, haven't drafted a number 1 D man, but life brings hope, 2025 another chance.
