I designed a stadium concept for Washington Square Park

I designed a stadium concept for Washington Square Park

  1. First things first, I am not an architect. I have never designed a building before, let alone a stadium. But after making those quick n dirty photoshop renderings of other MLB stadiums on this site the other day, I wanted to attempt to draw up a concept that incorporated all the ideas I had for this site.

Namely, what would a stadium look like here that 1) faced more north than north-east to get the best view of downtown and the Western Auto building as possible, 2) had Crown Vision, and 3) was replete some fountains, like we all want? And, because right field may have to be short due to this site’s size, 4) what would a Big Green Monster analog look in KC?

To answer that last question, say hello to Big Blue – the waterfall in right field! Is this feasible? Like a 20′ high 175′ wide waterfall in a baseball stadium? don’t know, I’m just some guy, but I figure it would be rad, and would make for some dramatic seating on top as well.

I would also love it if this stadium kept both the George Washington statue and Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial, so I have left those in place inside a large paved plaza with differing hard surfaces denoting travel lanes and congregation areas.

How to read this pic: the yellow is the lowest concourse. The orange is the mid, and the pink is the top. The dark grey on top of the pink if the roof, and the light grey bordering the whole stadium is the structure itself. Some of the orange outfield seats may or may not be at the same elevation as the rest of the stadium – I only intend to show that they would be higher than the lowest concourse by a significant margin. Because I am not an architect, and I designed this in 2D, there’s a non-zero chance that the geometry of some of these spaces don’t connect properly, or wouldn’t IRL. Please forgive this. As is apparent, I also didn’t continue to mark rows in all the orange and pink sections. Ran out of steam, to be honest, but obviously there would be seats there.

This is all to scale, so here are some field measurements:

Left field: 330′ (same as Kauffman)

    Right field: 319′

    Straight-away Center: 404′

Deepest part of the field is the corner between the home bullpen and Big Blue: 414′

Mostly I just had to get this idea out of my head, and I’m happy to share it here. Happy to hear everyone’s thoughts.
