Erik Gustafsson ended up leaving the New York Rangers this offseason in free agency to sign with the Detroit Red Wings who will hope Gus can help push their team along to make the playoffs in 2025. Rangers have seemingly replaced the loss of Erik by giving the spot to a younger defenseman Zac Jones.

I think Zac is going to be fantastic. He’s such a responsible player and from what I saw last season he doesn’t make many mistakes/doesn’t take many penalty minutes. On top of that he’s not afraid to jump on the offense.
This team absolutely needs: smarter, stronger, tougher, much more positional consistency and defensive prowess.
Not only from the D-Men, but from the Forwards.
Jones is very talented. Skating skills: exceptional.
Very good with hockey smarts, in defending with his stick.
But Jones is a liability, when opponents are very aggressive. Which will be almost every game.
I know I'm repeating myself: but Jones is not what this team needs. Not with Fox and Miller already on the defensive core.
