  1. A healthy Pacioretty could be a good add even at his age. Problem is, I’m not sure a healthy Pacioretty exists anymore.

  2. I like it. Most likely a contract that we can bury if things go south, and there’s nothing wrong with adding a solid point producer to give the young guys some competition at LW

  3. Patches is 35, he’s been in the league since 2009, he has one 82 game season under his belt. I don’t hate the idea of bringing him in but he’s not going to be an every day player and if he’s taking time from a guy like Robertson if he signs (or even someone who impresses at camp like Cowan or Grebyonkin, although I doubt either of them are going to be with the team for anything more than a few games at most), I’d rather pass on him.

  4. The Athletic also reported that the Red Wings were interested (and the Leafs) and he did recently move to Detroit so wouldn’t mark it as a sure thing he’s signing with the Leafs (even if I think they fit him better than Detroit)

  5. Of the options available Patches isn’t too bad. Got to compare him to whats out there like LaBanc, Zadina, Johnson (probably my pick since he can flex to C too), Kubalik, etc.

  6. He scored 0.5 pts per game last season? That’s great. What’s the issue here besides his age?

  7. Signing guys with serious injury history is getting old. Are we trying to win a cup or become the reclamation project capital?

  8. It would be worth it just for the Habs salt. But I don’t love it. Would rather Treliving worked the phones and earned his pay.

  9. Sure why not. If he plays well then that’s great! If he doesn’t you sit him and if he gets injured you put him on LTIR

  10. Looking under rocks like this is fundamentally embarrassing.I hope mgmt feels it.

  11. I mean, the Leafs medical staff have a machine that grows bones. It might be a good fit for Pacioretty

  12. If Robertson really wants a move then we do need to bring in a winger. Even though I’m a huge fan of Cowan, and think he makes the team and should be playing. Cowan isn’t ready to be the first option for a spot GOING into camp.

Honestly, there’s still a spot for Cowan even if Patches plays. Knies, patches and McMann all play a really tough game. Zero chance they all stay very healthy all year. Cowan starting the year on the 4th and playing 2nd pk mins, then moving up the lineup when anyone’s out is waaaay better than him playing in the OHL again.

  13. I wouldn’t mind adding him for cheap but its not going to make dumping Robertson for pennies feel any better.

  14. The fourth line is going to be what, Pacioretty/Kampf/Reaves? I’m not even sure what that line does or is supposed to be.

  15. I think this would be a good add.

He’s not who he used to be but he’s still good defensively and if he can stay healthy (ha!) then I think he could really add to the top-6 group

    Knies – Matthews – Nylander

    Patches – Tavares – Marner

Pushing Domi/McMann to the 3rd line really helps to strengthen the bottom 6 as well
