  1. If Hughes sees something in Zadina, maybe he'd be a solid Laval player if there's no room for him on the senior side. The Habs need to stack Laval because you know injuries always deplete them. You're only as good the feeder system backing you. Hughes has been right more often than not so taking a chance on Zadina is low risk.

  2. Lane’s not going to bump Matheson off PP1 because politics and seniority. Unless injuries. He can’t play 82 NHL games coming off of NCAA 30ish games. He’s going to take a couple years to mature his game. Patience.

  3. No thanks to Zadina. He didn't pan out in Detriot. Our young guys deserve a shot to crack the roster and signing Zadina will force the Habs to play him because he has a contract. We are taking a slot away from our young players.

I don't think we are seriously looking at him. Rumors are rumors. Just remember we are already at our 23 player roster with even with players like Pinard on the IR. Plus that doesn't even account of potentially some rookies making it into the roster like Lane Hutson or even potentially David Reinbacher.

If the Habs actually do sign him then I don't see more then one year since we have forwards that will join us next year. My feeling is that Ivan Demidov and Owen Beck will make the roster next year. Dvorak and Armia are going to be gone next year. No way would I want to block them from coming into the roster.

  4. Jesse / Josh, I have been saying for months not to forget about Kapanen so this is not new news. I live in Europe and have seen him play close to 20 times. It seems to me the North American commentators are underrating him because only high profile prospects like Demidov are noticed. Kap is at least a 3C and plays a complete game. He also has pedigree. Time will tell if he or Beck is the better player. Also, don't forget about Volokhin. He tore up the MHL as did Demidov.

  5. Nothing wrong with giving anyone a PTO, but, I really would rather see our prospects get ice time. This is our last year where we "might" not make the playoffs and get a top 16 pick. After this year we are looking at (hopefully) 10-14 years of picking 17th to 32nd because we will be perennial contenders. 17 days until we can watch hockey! great show guys, GO HABS GO!

  6. As much as people laugh at Montreal drafting KK at number 3, somehow Detroit did worse by drafting Zadina at number 6. That being said, giving him a PTO is a no risk option. If he does any good, give him at less than 1M.

  7. It would be very Hughes coded to sign Zadina, get him thriving under Marty’s coaching if a pto goes well, and flip him. Everybody would win.

That’s the only reason I think we would take Zadina. We have Roy, Newhook, Hage, Xhekaj (Florian), Beck, Kapanen, Farrell, Mesar as options in the next 2-3 years and that’s without the next drafts and without vets.

If that’s the plan for Zadina it would be a huge potential W for everyone and very low risk

  8. Let's not glance over who Kapanen's coach is, it's Olli Jokinen, 1231 NHL games, 750 points to his name. If he says the kid's legit, you can't question his judgement. He Knows Hockey through and through.
Having Kapanen and Beck (and maybe even Demidov at first, now that he's getting C time, & Hage) to challenge Dach & Dvorak & Evans for the 2C, 3C or 4C roles some time in the next 2 seasons is such a chance.

  9. Still think Necas will end up with the HABS …he fits the character…skill …and age of the main core .!! Hughes really wanted him …and only time will tell .!!😊

  10. Giving zadina a pto is free. No risk. No commitment. Why wouldn't we? It would increase the competition in the foreword group as long as he isn't blocking somebody like Beck or Kapanen go for it.
