Nobody’s Talking About This Habs Prospect
Coach brings you another Habs prospect report, and today, it’s all about Oliver Kapanen. Like the title says, nobody’s talking about this Habs prospect. While Habs fans often rave about Owen Beck, they tend to overlook Oliver Kapanen.
I believe Kapanen is underrated. With a new team, a new coach, and a new league, he’s poised to flourish in the SHL this upcoming season. Kapanen will also participate in the Canadiens’ rookie development camp in September, giving fans a chance to see what he’s made of.

Another Tomas Plekanec perhaps?? I miss Pleky.
In my opinion too many so-called pundits (?) in North America underrate Kapanen. Everyone is rightfully excited about Demidov however other European prospects seem to be overlooked.
Now living in Europe I have seen Kapanen play at least 20 times and IMO he is at the very least a 3C. He plays a complete 2-way game and has pedigree like the Tkachuk brothers and Iginla.
Volokhin is another player who is underrated and overlooked. He played on the same team as Demidov and tore up the MHL so don't forget about him.
Will be a great battle between Kapanen and Beck for the 3rd Center position. My guess is eventually both will be on team as 3rd and 4th centers. Win win situation for MTL.
I think his shot has really improved…NHL level wrist shot now.
You have to be carefree with euro players because it's bigger ice so you have to see how he is playing if an outside perimeter player or can he play in traffic. What I saw of him last year did not impress me at all he looked very ho hum.If he does consistently go to the net that is a big positive but I did not see that last year.
I dont know, we will see. We have some promising Swedes or Finns in the past who never really contributed to the Habs. This clip is wearing rosy glasses. We will see, I have doubts. Hey, I hope you are right, and I absolutely hope I am wrong.
I prefer the Coach's heavy French accent over this bad translation
Hello. I'm "Nobody". I've been wondering about Kapanen, he's been about a half a point per game player at Center his last two seasons. –
the Habs fans I chatted with blew him off. I was trying to explain his hockey family – Kasperi & Konsta are his cousins!
Just letting them know that if they didn't want him, the Bruins could use some good prospect centers that come from solid hockey backgrounds!
Another I was chatting with pointed out the fact that he was drafted in the mid-60s, he wasn't a first-round draft pick !
– and I explained that one of the Bruins best centers David krejci was drafted at # 63 and led the Bruins to a Stanley Cup!
Good to see him getting some well deserved attention
Again, if Habs don't want him – we'll take him off your hands!
"Nobody" wishes you all a good day!
Lol!
I hope his development continues…we need competition at the forward spots…go HABS prospects…Thanks Coach
I hope he gets to the NHL but I expect Beck and Hage to stay in front of him as bottom 6 centers. We never know, though. Maybe Kapanen will stay longer in the AHL and become a great call up if the injuries get out of control in Mtl
He seems to one dimensional for NHL play especially for a center, has to improve his skating in my opinion.
Maybe Xavier should demand a high contract raise ,having to protect all those slick and players who shy away from the rough hockey
I like Kapenen, whether he gets on the 3rd or 4th line. I find him to be very effective & a great playoff performer.
2025-2026 will be crazy for the habs
