[Curry] If the Yankees don’t declare a specific reliever as their closer for the postseason, Boone said he’d be OK w/ continuing to mix and match in October. He said he feels the Yankees “have 5 or 6 guys who can get the last 3 outs.” Weaver is the de facto closer now. So stay tuned.

  1. Not sure I’m confident in Boone’s ability to mix and match in the postseason, but that’s why he’s paid to manage. If he fucks it up he shouldn’t be brought back next year.

  2. Yeah if there’s no clear option, gotta play for the situation. Makes sense but no Holmes anywhere near a close game dear god please

  3. I mean there are 28 guys on the roster that can likely get 3 outs, it’s just a matter of how many runs they give up while they do it

  4. the whole idea of a closer is stupid anyways, i would love if this somehow took hold.

using your best relievers in the tightest spots should not have so much stupid inertia to overcome

disclaimer: MO is still a god.

  5. Finally good managing. Weaver, Kahnle, Cousins and if Hamilton pitches well the rest of the month should be the rotation.

I would personally keep Holmes in low leverage situations.

Defensive subs late innings is the next step because the infield is mediocre.

  6. Is it wrong to still believe in Clay? He became our main closer for a reason, and I think he can still regain that form

  7. Tbf, Boone also thinks Clay Holmes is an elite closer so I’m not sure his “feels” mean anything

  8. 5 or 6? Why does this guy always have to bullshit. Just be like , “yeah it’s good to have 3 guys I can trust to get the final 3 outs.”
