Kessel going without a PTO again

Kessel going without a PTO again

  1. The Canucks gave him lots of time last year. Pretty sure it’s a slowness/agility thing. This game is too fast for passengers now.

  2. One year at his age is huge. The league getting faster and he is getting slower. I agree with the above comment. Give Jaromir a call and do a spin in Eastern Europe for a year.

  3. He was always awesome to watch play, but Phil has made a shit ton of money in his career. I think he’ll be ok if the road comes to an end.

  4. Biz needs to look at Kessel’s +/- record… he’s a huge liability so no coach wants him

  5. Genuinely, could it really be that bad to have him? The worst that could happen is you have an extra 775K cap hit for the year and a three time Cup winning veteran presence who has had a great career.

Heck, why don’t the Penguins bring him back for old times sake? Why doesn’t a rebuilder with a young core bring him in to be a leader for the young guys? He seems like such a fun guy to be around, why wouldn’t you take that basically free morale boost? Why don’t we bring him in for our Fourth Line?

Plus, has he really declined as much as people seem to think? I imagine he’s still got a lethal shot, and has enough years in him that he has a very high hockey IQ. Physically he might not be the best anymore, but it’s rare you have a three time Cup champ who has been a big part of every one of those teams is just sitting in free agency, especially one as likable as Phil.

  6. I mean it’s not too surprising. He’s an ageing winger that’s a defensive liability half the time. Can’t imagine a season removed helped his conditioning all too much neither even if he was skating regularly.

Having said that Phil is an absolute beauty and legend to the sport. He was my favourite player growing up and an inspiration to a bunch of others I’m sure. He absolutely has nothing else to prove.

  7. Well look at his dieting he is at the age where diets start really affecting your body. I’m sure he can still play but the league isn’t like back in the 70s and 80s. Guys nowadays are on stricter regimens

  8. Weird situation. I want the man to keep going. Everybody loves Phil. At the same time you’re a 2x Stanley Cup Champion. There’s nothing left to prove. But I don’t want to see him sign with a SJ Sharks(no disrespect meant, love y’all) to just keep playing
