  1. I thought people here would find it interesting that the name change looks to be beginning.

    Fuck John Fisher

  2. I know it’ll probably be ‘ATH’ but I hope their three letter abbreviation on scoreboards and tickers is ‘THE’

  3. It’s going to be weird seeing “Oakland A’s” vintage jerseys in the same category as the Expos, Senators, Pilots, etc. I wonder if they’re going to do any sort of uniform refresh or if they’ll continue with the iconic aesthetic. My guess is they’ll tweak it a little but not too much

  4. Earth wallpaper in the background makes this feel more grandiose for some reason.

**The Athletics belong to *all* of us now.**

  5. When they were based in Philadelphia, newspapers would print their name in presented standings as just “Athletic”, in reference to Athletic Club of Philadelphia.

    What’s old is new again.

  6. I am definitely not a fan of the trend started by the Washington Football Team to play entire seasons with placeholder names.

I also think this is decision is pretty dismissive of Sacramento, it comes across that the A’s are embarrassed and ashamed of playing there and are trying to downplay that fact by hiding the city from their name. I don’t think it bodes well for Sacramento supporting the A’s for these 3-4 years.

  7. Six games left in Oakland this season. They couldn’t have waited until those were done before making this change?

  8. Incoming $5 permanent service fee to every ticket to cover the cost of the name change on their website and the notification.

  9. Was hoping they’d go for Sacramento Athletics. Merch would probably sell for a lot and have good resale.

  10. Call them Rover Athletics or Wanderer Athletics. Have 3 or 4 ‘home’ stadiums. I’m surprised we don’t see this more: billionaires extorting *multiple* cities with just one team!
