Boston Celtics too expensive? Team being sold because of family drama?

A new report suggests the Celtics are being sold because Wyc Grousbeck spent too much of the family’s money on Boston’s championship roster. Is family drama really at the heart of the Celtics being sold? What does this mean moving forward? John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal discusses this New York Post report and why this season really could be the last with this core.

  1. The root of my Celtics passion has always been the financial implications for the children of billionaires. Sometimes I think I care too much about those “poor” sob’s.

  2. Bezos potentially comes in because he can. I mean most of Bezo's purchases are because he feels like it, not necessarily because he's seeking a profit…

  3. No judgement, any content for you right now is good, but the NY Post is a tabloid, not a news source. If you just think for a minute, this sale has been in the works for a while. Irv didn't suddenly decide "Oh they gave out these obvious extensions to Tatum and White, SELL!!!" Selling one of the top, what, 10 franchises in American sports takes time to line up, let alone announce two days after Banner 18. Hell, if he was only thinking about himself he'd probably tell them to dump even more money so he can get as many banners in his last few years. I can see him wanting to have the framework to condense his wealth to make it easier on his kids when he passes, and that's why the extended window makes sense

  4. I don't think any of those big money guys are in either. Total fantasy. It's the natural reaction to the John Henry Turn: "Oh, he fooled us–we need someone richer than God who'll spend whatever it takes from now till the end of time." I'm blaming Bill Simmons. OBTW, anyone notice Steve Limitless Money Ballmer unloading Paul George this summer?
