A lot of Devils fans under the devils fan page mad about the new women’s PWHL team branding as New York playing in New Jersey

What are yours opinions on this? Personally it bugs me out too, we stay getting disrespected

  1. I understand it from a marketing and financial perspective. Make a lot more money from “Hey were an NYC team” than “hey we play in Newark/NJ”.

But at the same time it’s the Fresh Prince “why don’t he want me?” Meme

  2. I couldn’t give two shits. Excited for the Rock to host more hockey. I hope they start carrying Sirens merch in the team store/Devils Den.

  3. I wish they’d go by NJ but considering they’re the only team in the area, I get using the NY name. They’re going to struggle with attendance and having the NY association will help them out a lot.

I’m just glad they chose Newark as their permanent home. I suspected they would after the success of the two games here last year, and the miserable attendance they were getting in Long Island and Connecticut. Was a great game.

  4. Really? I couldnt care less. The only plus side is maybe more hockey at the Rock in the season means less opportunities for other events to fuck up the ice. Otherwise the PWHL will probably just be another flash in the pan and we will be talking about the next new women’s league in a few seasons still wondering why they all fail.

  5. Make the case for the Jets and Giants all you want but these PWHL teams tend to change venues year to year, especially the NY team. Just be happy for them they have a home.

  6. Man who cares. People gotta realize the New York teams represent the city and not the state of New York

  7. It’s fine from a marketing perspective, so long as there isn’t another New York team for a bit. If anything it’s more important the league survive long enough for this to be a thing.

  8. I couldn’t care less. I’m happy to have more hockey closer to me. People really have way too much time on their hands and just look for stupid stuff to get mad over. It’s pretty pathetic imo.

  9. Good play in Jersey be named after Jersey this doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world, lady liberty is in NJ

  10. If they changed their name to NJ, I would absolutely go to a few games. They should not be called NY.

You think the 76ers are going to change their name once they move Camden?

NJ definitely isn’t the greatest state in the country. But we are way better than NY and Pennsylvania and we don’t need to host their shitty teams.

Okay you pos of a governor Phil Murphy. You want to allow this? Get rid of both your and Christie’s gas tax that’s forcing us to pay roughly an extra 45 cents per gallon. Mr. Summer teeth would never do this.

  11. Do people realize that this wouldn’t be the first time a professional sports team doesn’t have their home stadium or arena in the city they’re representing?

  12. It would always bother me that Jerseyans just allow this to keep happening, a simple strike of not attending games until a name change isn’t hard. I know we’re in the NY metro area but idc, Jersey has its own culture with its own residents. Until they change their name I’m also not supporting and hoping they lose a lot 👏🏼

  13. The team played their first season in NY, and that city was chosen because of the historic “Original 6” – anybody who decides not to support women’s hockey over this is worse than a Rags fan

Editing to add: The Rock is their primary stadium THIS SEASON, not their permanent home for the entirety of the franchise

  14. You play here and you’re taxed here you should be the NJ branded team. Your facilities are here and games you must be NJ
