Penguins Player Grid Day 15: Most Disappointing (All Time)
September 16, 2024
Ulf Samuelsson was voted as the best physical player, who is the most disappointing player of all time?

Sorry, Mr. Iginla
Kris Beech.
He was the biggest piece we got back in the Jagr trade. Craig Patrick told us he was a young Ron Francis.
Derrick Brassard. We were promised a great player. We did not get that. Especially for what we gave up. Probably the worst acquisition in the last 25 years of our franchise.
Honorable mentions
Beau Bennet, Reilly Smith, David Perron, Dustin Jeffrey, Jerome Iginla, Patrick Marleau, Ryan Graves, and Alex Galchenyuk.
Beau Bennett.
It’s a good thing Chris Kunitz panned out as well as he did, because IIRC Eric Tangradi was supposed to be the main piece of that trade
Jack Johnson. Somehow he convinced Sully to play him every night and he was absolutely god awful every single game.
Milan Kraft Macaroni and Cheese
A kind of weird choice but Matt Murray. Essentially he is the reason flower was left unprotected. But unfortunately he couldn’t stay healthy and had a lot he was dealing with off the ice. I don’t blame Murray it’s just the way the cards fell but it’s incredibly disappointing that he didn’t become the shutdown goalie he could have.
Kovalev
Mario lemieuxs health
I thought Olli Maatta would be a consistent 50 point defenseman to this day, cancer and injuries really fucked him over
Half of our prospects the last 5 years
Morozov. He carved out an NHL career for himself, but every time he played the Devils and he got the slightest boost of confidence, you could see the skill that could’ve made him a very productive player. And then after scoring 5 points in 2 games, he’d go the next ten where you would’ve been forgiven if you didn’t even notice he was in the lineup.
Weird honorable mention, and for a much different reason – Ziggy Palffy. Such a crazy skilled player, and you could see a few times how his and Sid’s game could’ve worked together so well, it would’ve been even more of a boon to the beginning of his career. Such a disappointment when he peaced out halfway through that first year.
Aleksey Morozov. Especially considering what he went on to accomplish in the Super League.
Morozov
Dunno if this counts, but the Jagr coming back to the NHL fiasco where it seemed like he was destined for Pittsburgh and goes to the fucking fl*ers
Randy Robitaille
Derrick Pouliot
Ulf over Kasparaitis is a travesty
alexei ponikarovsky
Beau Bennet
Derrick brassard. gMJR gave up 9 assets total in acquiring him and then trading him. He was supposed to be the third line center to make them win another cup instead he was a bitch. Beau Bennett and Kris Beech were so disappointing too tho. Can’t forget 8th overall DP
Not to pile on the guy, but Koltsov deserves a mention here.
Iggy. My favorite non-Penguin (before then) ever. He should have slayed here.
Not his fault though…Bylsma.
I’m gonna go with Beau Bennett. He was so overhyped and was supposed to be The Next Big Thing. But he just kinda fizzled out.
Post lockout it’s gotta be Fleury in the playoffs.
Pre lock out probably Kris Beech.
Probably not the worst of them, but I’ll throw Erik Karlsson in the ring. He was coming off an insane year, the Penguins trade for him and end up missing the playoffs.
