Sean Payton’s Absurdly Long Play Calls Are Once Again Causing Problems For Broncos Quarterback

  1. We need to go all the way with the rebuild. Fire fucking George Paton and Sean Payton better get his shit together or he can go too.

  2. Sean Payton is cooked.

Also did he ever get glasses? I don’t see him wearing glasses and that was one of his excuses last year

  3. Wait our offensive guru coach is using an outdated play calling system no one else uses and is overly complicated for any QB let alone a rookie?

Naaa Payton is cutting edge and that’s why he’s using an offense from 2005 and runs no motion.

Sean said he may have to simplify, hopefully he actually does. It should not take 20 second to get the playcall in. Gives Bo and the line no chance to see the defense and make adjustments.

  4. I mentioned this in the game thread yesterday, but it felt like we were getting to the line very late, like 5-7 seconds on the playclock. Things seemed to quicken up toward the end of the game but it was an issue.

There was a third down play where a LB rushed almost untouched and tacked Javonte behind the line. Bo and the offense got to the line with like 5 seconds left, no time to identify the blitzer and check into protection to pick him up.

  5. Sean Payton needs to be gone. I’m sorry, but it’s true. He’s not adaptable to this modern game. We need to get someone who is capable of getting the best out of players. My vote is for Klint Kubiak.

  6. New Orleans moved away from Sean Payton’s system this year and hired Klint Kubiak to run the Shanny offense.  Highest scoring O in the league through two weeks.

  7. The amount of times I was yelling at the TV to get to the line and snap the ball made this painfully obvious. You have rookie qb who is clearly jittery and coming from a college system where everyone gets the play at the same time and he had like 15 seconds to view the field to having to make the call and 3 seconds to view the field. It’s absurd. Use the godamn wristband and simplify the calls. Vance fucking joseph adapted to his players in the middle of the season and clearly improved things. SP seems immune to adjusting his scheme and coaching style for 20 years. I never thought I’d say this, but at this moment it is true, VJ is better at getting the most out of his players than SP is at getting the most out of his. Please prove me wrong SP.

  8. Just watching him read the play for like 20 sec was and then getting the snap off with 1 sec to spare was rough. Nix had to burn a timeout in one of those scenarios just to run over and clarify the play. There is no way shit needs to be so complex. Dan Patrick had a good take the other week on this.

  9. One of my coworkers is a Saints fan, and told me that towards the end Payton’s Saints tenure, play calling became a little too predictable and Brees often had to call a good amount of his own plays.

  10. Sean Payton: Boot Right, Game of Thrones, Hot Dog Alpha, Turtle Neck Galore, Mean Girls 3, Quad Times 4, Massage Message Massage, Lose Loose Loosen Loser, on 3…

Bo Nix: So….. hand it to Javonte for a loss?

    Sean Payton: Duh! Obviously.

  11. “The sky is falling” people make me lol.

This marriage wasn’t going to click overnight and we all knew this was going to be a complicated offense. On top of that, the Broncos split first team reps during training camp for the QB competition.

I’ll wait until week 18 before I start jumping to conclusions.

  12. I said the same damn thing yesterday! Sean needs to lose the damn ego and start over with this offense. Use the same stuff Bo is already comfortable with. It’s his job as the coach to adjust to the skill and competency of the players on the field. Not the other way around. Bo was frustrated yesterday with how long it was taking to get the play in. It leaves him less time at the line of scrimmage to make adjustments or get a read on what the defense is doing.

  13. Broncos biggest issue is and has been Sean’s giant ego. Sean’s hubris is so big I’m not sure how he gets through any doorway.

  14. Is the coach who rode one of the best QBs of all time + an intentional-injury-inflicting defense to one Super Bowl and a fair number of mediocre years maybe not actually all that great?

  15. I don’t really expect this to be a winning season. But the coaching has been miserable. Let’s play the first half running twice and then throwing on third and long so we can punt. Then, when we are behind, open it up and make the game interesting. But then put it all on a rookie quarterback who isn’t going to be able to read the second layer and miss that his throw is just a trap for him to throw an interception.

It’s not just play call length (which should be looked at) but the brain dead conservative game we play that guarantees a loss and a boring game.

  16. My biggest red flag was the Bo end zone pick. Yes he forced the throw, rookie shit, but every receiver option was all on back line deep endzone routes. Not a single check down or shallow. Why we don’t run more drag routes is beyond me. That play never had a chance.

  17. absurdly long play calls or not, he’s the man running the team and offense and it seems like he isn’t really playing to the team’s strengths and weaknesses. instead he’s just trying to force things to get them done “his way”

aka let’s just make this rookie throw the ball 50 times a game and dammit it’s gonna work!!

  18. I noticed there was a moment in one of the huddles where here Bo literally seemed to motion to the sidelines to “hurry up” like he was winding a clock. I think this is a scenario where just because a rookie can handle a complex playbook, doesn’t mean we need to keep it that way. Especially when the rest of the offense doesn’t seem to be really building that chemistry

  19. The team is a mess. Peyton needs to get gone after this season and we need to invest heavily in the O Line. With the shitty coaching and 0 protection I’m unable to tell if Nix has real potential or not

Sean Payton has not shown he is better than Nathaniel Hackett.

Homers don’t ever see anything wrong.

  21. I don’t want to say it too soon.. but is Sean Payton just Mike McCarthy? Old and out dated offensive schemes who live off one Super Bowl win from their top 10 QB of all time? Please prove me wrong.

  22. Nothing seems more rage inducing right now than hearing this news all for screen passes etc. behind the first down marker.

  23. Everything needs to be simplified. It’s absurd. So apparently on Nix’s pick, a WR ran the wrong route. Not shocking since it seems he assumed someone would pull the safety away.

Nix is young and making mistakes but it’s a coaching issue

  24. I know he never will but Payton needs to give up the playcalling. Nothing he has shown over the past 2 years leads anyone to believe he can still call plays in today’s NFL. Last year everyone gave him the excuse that he couldn’t run his offense with Russ but this offense is the exact same offense as it was last year if not worse.
