  1. This year isn't about making the playoffs. It's about making a jump with the core players, seeing progress up and down the depth chart from prospects in Montreal, Laval and so forth, shedding some more of the lingering MB contracts, and setting themselves up for a draft with loads of draft capital.

  2. the Habs lost over 30 one goal games last year – that means they are ALREADY competitive…. adding Laine and getting a bit more consistency out of Slafkovsky and just 15 more goals from the bottom 6 and …. 20 of those lost games become wins and the Habs are in the playoffs….

People are seriously sleeping on the Habs.

  3. What do you want them to say? They didn't even had a full practice together yet. We don't know the lines yet, is anyone healthy, who are the rookies that are going to play? Of course they are in the mix. At first glance they are better than last season. Is it gonna be enough? Who knows? But they have to play to win, that's the mindset they have to keep

  4. Aaa as a habs fan I am tired of hearing what ifs. Let the season start and we will see. From my observation of last season they have a chance but nothing is yet known

  5. Isn't another way of describing recent history "They are only 4 season away from being in the Cup finals"
I think people are really under estimating the internal improvement especially on defence. To me the major issue will be how the goaltending holds up. I am not sold on our tandem but if one of them really steps up, we will be in the hunt by the trade deadline.

  6. If I’m going to listen to hockey opinion, I want to hear expert opinions. Not a journalist’s with no hockey background . If you have information from inside the organization, report it. If you’re going to t talk about what it takes to play hockey, or win hockey games, I want to listen to an expert.

  7. To be realistic, an improved Patrick Laine/Slafkovsky wont make a bottom 6 team go to playoff, altough I think they will both score a bit more than the last year and if I had to bet my money on someone to make the habs a bit more competitive it would be Suzuki, who I think that hes gonna push for the point per game season, but thats my opinion.

  8. They're gonna surprise a lot of teams. They have 3 new players, basically. 2nd line has 2 of em Laine & Dach. Dach is healthy this year he's new plus Laine and Hutson. PP will improve. Solid tandem in nets. Option 1st PP
Laine, Caulfield, Slavkosky, Suzuki, Hutson or Matheson. St Louis is going to have so many more options this year. As long as they can stay relatively healthy. They'll be playing meaniful hockey Apr / May.
