“They paid Javon Hargrave a boatload of money… He’s not getting a push inside that he once did in Philadelphia, that’s for sure. Or in Pittsburgh. He doesn’t look like the same player to me right now.” — Brian Baldinger Stats: Javon has 3 tackles, 3 pressures and 0 sacks so far this season

  1. Never understood the signing in the first place. Definitely a luxury signing (at the time) when we had needs elsewhere.

I think we restructured his contract too, right? So on the hook even longer I think

  2. Think it’s time to start talking about him being a massive bust, especially for that price. The gap between him and Kinlaw isn’t nearly as massive as we all thought it’d be. Might hear his name mentioned once per game. Did much of nothing last season too.

  3. Hargrave was good only for the first half of last season. He’s been underwhelming and he’s definitely a cap casuality for 2025.

Anyway, other than Bosa, the whole DL has underperformed in the the first two games, specially the pass rush. Sorensen needs to be creative dialing pressures and blitzes, the 4-man rush not getting done.

  4. Can we rush more than 4?

Perhaps by throwing in a blitz every once in a while we get Hargrave off the double team and in a play making situation

  5. When this defense was other-worldly, it had so many Pro-bowl caliber players making rookie wages.

2019: Buckner, Armstead, Bosa, Warner, Greenlaw, Moseley, DJ Jones

2021~22: Bosa, Azeez, DJ Jones(’21), Huf, Lenoir

Now? Practically only Lenoir and Brown left as those value players. Kinlaw and Jackson being busts unfortunately had a domino effect, had to shell out big money to Hargrave and Floyd. The Trey Lance was trade was a big factor for sure but their defensive draft picks since ’21 have not been good overall. Gonna have to wait until week 5 against the Cardinals to see if this defense can get back to top 5 form again.

  6. It’s the 4 man rush. You can’t expect for guys to produce a ton up front when you barely run any blitzes

  7. All that TC hype about him being in great shape was a nothing burger. If Hargrave is not getting pressure then he’s pretty much worthless with the below average run stopping ability. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them attempt to address with a mid season trade.

  8. Not coming to terms with DeFo Buckner is one of several bad choices this FO has made. SMH Kinlaw washed and we paid a washed Hargrave. Can’t get sacks and can’t get off the field on 3rd downs. Can’t protect the qb. Wasted opportunities will haunt us. And we needed to win the SB when we had a chance.

  9. Outside of Bosa our D-line is mediocre we could have paid Buckner this money and had actual production…

  10. way way overpaid. they need to stop overpaying these high end guys and get back to drafting better. put more money into o line.

  11. Hargrave is 31, lots of guys slow down once they hit 30 due to age/injuries/wear & tear. That’s why signing guys who are 30+ to big contracts is always a massive risk. Guys like trent williams are the exceptions, not the norm.

  12. Thought we would have tried to move him. It was clear last year that he wasn’t the same, but I guess we’re stuck with him.
