  1. I’m not giving up on Caleb until year 3. Am I giving up on the offensive line though? Possibly…

  2. Big cat is awesome. Anyone who gives up on a guy after 2 games is an idiot. Especially on a guy who showed clear improvement from one week to another playing 2 of the best defenses in AFC

  3. Williams’ qb rating through two games is higher than Peyton manning’s was through three.

People are freaking out because people always freak out,. especially after a loss

  4. I won’t lie though, I did think the offense would look better than they have so far.

I’ll put it as simple as I think I can.

I think Caleb has the tools, I’m just waiting for him to “wow” me.

  5. Caleb has gone up against two top 10 defenses in his first two games as a pro. Definitely some unevenness but I thought he still showed improvement against Houston. And then when you consider the line…

  6. It’s just the society we’ve built. Outrage sells and gets eyeballs on you. You can’t fill 24 hour constant sports news with “no one expects a rookie to immediately be an elite QB. He’s making progress.” But you can fill that cycle with speculation about him being a bust and arguments about whether or not he will be

  7. Houston is a playoff team. Titans have a good line. Caleb is making mistakes that rookies make. The timing of the WRs isn’t in line with Caleb’s timing. The OL needs a lot of help. The running game is struggling to put anything together

All of these can explain a poor CW stat line. But, even though we all still have belief in CW, there IS cause for concern RIGHT NOW until coaches prove otherwise.

I’m annoyed at other teams fans dunking on the Bears, but we have a lot of reasons that things aren’t breaking the offenses’ way. My hope though, is that we aren’t making these same excuses later in this season and definitely not making these excuses next season

  8. Yeah, it’s crazy to give up on a rookie QB after 2 games (with legit defenses). Now that being said, Waldron does have me a little worried—the plays, personnel choices, and preparedness of the offense in general have some question marks. The next few weeks will be telling.

  9. The OL is an issue but I definitely feel like the next handful of games may help them gel a little bit and help Caleb’s confidence. All very winnable games against poor defenses. Maybe will help get the OL some confidence back too.

  10. I am not giving up on him. I never had any hope for him. He plays QB for the Bears. That alone will destroy him. Prove me wrong.

The OC has given up on establishing the RUN game and that is not a “poor fan take”

  11. Bingo. People seeing what Caleb is doing and screeching, “Justin was doing that last year, there’s no difference”

Except for the major difference that Justin was doing it 3 years into his career.

  12. JF “cultists” trying to bring down Caleb is so weird because they’re becoming exactly what they always fought against.

  13. Im getting tired of blaming bad takes on Justin Fields cultists.

Im a Justin Fields supporter and I totally agree with this take – I really believe in Caleb Williams will be awesome and better than Fields. Can we stop with pointless attacks on fans who think Justin Fields will be a good QB?

  14. Hoge put it pretty well on one of his pods this week that there’s just no response to people who are saying “lol the bears are doing it again” because so far all the signs are there. Yes its only two weeks in and Caleb does seem to be a better prospect then we’ve ever had. But you cant argue people are wrong when they start meming that it looks like we’re going down the same path we always go down because it does seem that way at this point in time.

  15. The problem is, the team looks really stupid spending elite level money on a running back when the line clearly is not up to quality to utilize him. properly

They look pretty stupid spending draft capital on a receiver and a good chunk of money on him this year when the quarterback doesn’t even have time to look down field on 60% of his drop backs

I’m someone who usually defends the general manager and I believe he’s done a superb job building up this defense, but he has made some significantly bad projections on what he thought the line was going to materialize into

Going all in on skill positions is done by a team. That should have a top 10 line intact, not bottom 10.

A similar comparable as the Edmonton Oilers that have wasted almost 10 years on one of the best players to ever play because they had no concept of building a defense

  16. I’m more concerned with the coaching on the offensive side of the ball than I am with Caleb.

Caleb still passes the eye test, can’t say the same about Waldron and Morgan.

  17. Only if we get the f@&king o line together, the organization give up on fields!!! It’s amazes me how they don’t see our o line has been trash!!!!

  18. Anyone with half a brain realizes none of this is on Caleb and we aren’t going to get an accurate reading on him until he has an o line that isn’t complete dogshit. There isn’t a qb alive that can succeed without a line to protect them or RBs that can get upfield. His situation is entirely fucked right now.

  19. The reason Ryans was so brutal on Caleb was because the game was so close. If he would have been up by 3 scores, he would have called off the dogs and Caleb would have racked up some garbage yards.

Most predicted a loss. How did they think the Bears would lose? You lose because the other team was better and that’s exactly what happened.

  20. For the record I blame the organization not the players per se or the coaches as much.

I’ve been watching us struggle to develop anything offensively more than running backs consistently since the 80’s. Running backs and maybe tight ends.

Defense we’ve typically been good, offense it’s like we have no idea what we’re looking at.

The Trestman years where we had offense idk what was going on with the defense but please do not name the DC outloud.

  21. I’ll give up if we have an embarrassing season opening loss to Green Bay in year 3. That’s when I knew with Mitch and Justin lol.

  22. I like this perspective and I have by no means given up on Caleb but my only critique of this comp is Caleb was supposed to be much further along than Allen was coming in as a rookie.

  23. For every josh allen, there’s many many many more who just continued to be shit and dropped. Let’s use an extreme outlier to prove a point. I remember people using josh allen comparison to feel better about fields too.

I’m not saying Caleb won’t be great, just stop using wild comparisons. Caleb was always going to have Rickey patches and growing pains. Too many people expected him to follow CJ Stroud as if CJ isnt doing anything special. Let Caleb learn.

  24. Yeah I don’t think we know what Caleb can do. I do know he can’t keep getting hit like this or he’ll never reach any level of potential, though.

  25. For everything has gone wrong so far this season, I remain encouraged. Even if everything stayed the same, but Caleb was 50% more accurate on his deep passes, we are talking about this team differently.

I’m encouraged that Caleb’s eyes are more often than not in the right place. He’s doing protections. His footwork has been good (except it was deteriorated some after getting blown up all game).

Of all the things I was concerned about for Caleb starting as a rookie, accuracy was not one of them. Considering he’s doing so many other things well or well enough, I think he has an opportunity to get things right against weaker opponents in the next few games.

  26. I’m not giving up on Caleb but his stats are worse than JA’s through 2 so this is a dumb comparison

  27. People just had unreasonably high expectations for Caleb right out of the gate and are now adjusting them to reality. I don’t think you’ll find anyone who is legitimately ready to call him a bust
