A big h/t to u/Michael__Pemulis who tagged us and prompted us to search our database for this stat!
I’m surprised Alfonso Soriano hadn’t done this. The one year he led the league in steals, in ’02, he finished second in strikeouts to Mike Cameron (of course it was Mike Cameron).
My favorite part about this post is seeing which links are blue/purple.
I guess they’re not clicking on Schwarber’s page over at b-ref HQ. Presumably because they all have his stats committed to memory.
Tovar, theoretically, has 31 plate appearances (3.1 per game if he starts every game) for the remainder of the season. That means he would need to strike out for half of his PAs…AND EDC would need to be strikeout-free. Doubtful on both ends there.
And let’s be honest, Ohtani ain’t getting to 64.
This record’s in the bag.
Very cool! Thanks for looking into my question
Did his steal pace slow dramatically? I feel like he had 50 2 months in…
Hey bbref can you punch my hand? I’m trying to settle a debate ✋🏼
Interesting data, but the source is pretty sketchy. Not sure it’s trustworthy, tbh
Anybody else remember when it was crazy for a player to have 200 strikeouts? And now it’s regular, every year someone seems to gets there.
He’s pretty much got this in the bag by the looks of it
That’s impressive.
Breeeeeeeef
Incredible! He must be the best 2-way player in the league right now!
Oh, not that type of Strikeout?…
You see 202 strikeouts I see 202 didn’t hit in a double play. 📈
At least Adam Dunn and Mark Reynolds strikeout numbers are likely out of reach. 21 more strikeouts with 10 left to play and the Reds out of contention.
Sorry unless the source is Rob Manfred I don’t buy it.
But also if the source is Rob Manfred I’d believe it even less so I’m conflicted
He’s going to be unstoppable if he can get his strikeout rate under control.
Unrelated, but I didn’t realise José Ramirez was stealing like that!
Will Benson tried his hardest to save him from this but unfortunately he couldn’t get enough ABs to get his Ks up and qualify for stats.
And he’s up on second place by exactly 16 in both
Yeah well imagine how many more steals he’d have if instead of striking out, he got on base
I wanna say last week someone also said he’s in line for the “Triple Frown”. Leading the MLB in CS, Errors and Ks. I think u/sad-toaster795
64 SB before the season is even over is actually insane
Gorman was on pace to set the strikeout record. Elly lucked out.
So then I guess Reggie Jackson wasn’t a huge base stealing threat.
I would have guessed Bobby Bonds on this. Just checked his stats. He lead the league in K’s three times and stole 40+ bags several times, but never led the league in steals…

Hmmm, I’ll have to check the sources on this one…
Hi BRef!
