  1. Has Counsell drafted? Has he scouted recently? Gone to Japan? Can he do what Kantrovitz has done the last 4 drafts… after listening to Pat Murphy yest he sure sounds like the serious energy Brewer has had in that dugout…

  2. I am tired of everyone blaming hoyer, everything that was a risk was a hit.
He was right about Busch, he was right about Imanaga, he was right about Suzuki back in 2022, he has built a great farm and built a team that was GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN THE DIVISION, all the cubs fans believed that going into the season.
The only thing you can say that Jed dropped the ball on is the bullpen which was riddled with injuries since the start.
THIS SEASON IS ON THE PLAYERS AND CRAIG COUNSELL, everyone is talking about urgency and all these things. Where was this urgency when they went 22-39.
Dansby Swanson being a leader on this team, where were you when you struggled and instead of making adjustments and continued with the same “get them next time attitude” when you grounded out to short.
COUNSELL WHERE WERE YOU WHEN SEIYA GOT RUNG UP ON A PITCH THAT WAS IN THE OTHER BATTERS BOX AND YOU SAT ON YOUR BUTT AND DID NOTHING.
WHERE WAS THIS GET BETTER ATTITUDE WHEN YOU CONTINUED TO PLAY PATRICK WISDOM OVER BUSCH OR MAYBE BRINGING UP SOMEONE ELSE.
Your talking about how hoyer has an attachment to players and this and that, BUT HE TRADED A FAN FAVORITE IN MOREL IN A DEAL TO HELP THEM IN THE FUTURE. HE TRADED THE WORLD SERIES CORE.
It’s crazy to me that people are calling for JED HOYERS JOB, when we all BELIEVED that this team would win the division and they underperformed and it is entirely on the PLAYERS

  3. What if the Cubs do what the Braves did. Bobby Cox served as the field manager and the general manager. Maybe Craig Counsell can continue managing the ball club while serving as the president.

  4. I know it isn't likely that the Cubs are going to make the postseason. Hopefully, the can finish this season with a winning record. I've pretty much been looking at 2025 since the 7-week collapse in May and June. Corbin Burnes is going to be a free agent after this season, so they have a possible quality starter there.

  5. Fun episode, especially since you laid out some good points. Ofc it’s really unlikely but hey, these are the conversations that a daily baseball podcast should have. Cover all the bases with good reasoning as to why something should or shouldn’t happen.

  6. the real problem is not david ross last year and the same with Craig Counsell this year it time jed hoyer to be fire jed hoyer is only one real problem for chicago cubs

  7. Craig Brindle below agrees with Matt and me too. The current manager takes over for Hoyer and Ross takes over as manager. That way you don't have a sunk cost with Craig, like you did with Jay Hey. Dead money. And get a new hitting coach. Although the cubs of late, especially Swanson and Happ, are now, finally, swinging at first pitch fast balls and swinging in hitter's counts. NIco too. It is no coincidence that all 3 of those guys are getting two and 3 hits a game. Aggressive approach. Like Ohtani tonight. First pitch breaking ball on the outside part of the plate. Dinger. He is LOOKING to do damage. Granted, he's a stud lol. Shaw can take over Wisdom's roster spot though next year

  8. Matt I love your show. Watch you and Sam all the time, but I disagree with you on Counsell. Many times this season I've heard you guys say the Cubs have a better team than the Brewers. Which would equal better players on the field. You've gone down Milwaukees lineup, shaking your heads. Last year, Ross didn't handle the bullpen well or couldn't win on the margins, but said Counsell could. 2023 Cubs scored alot of runs, with pretty much the same team in 24. With the addition of Counsell, shouldn't the Cubs with the same players have won a couple of more games this year??? Counsell was the guy to win on the margins the difference from 2023. That didn't happen, but in the smaller market Milwaukee it's business as usual. The Brewers have been playing the same baseball they have for 8 years. Even better this year with as you said manager of the year Pat Murphy, because in the last 8 years it's been Pat Murphy whispering in Counsells ear. In Chicago Counsell doesn't have a Murphy whispering in his ear. We heard Counsells interview, that should of been said in June. Yes Jed has some blame, the bullpen let us down early, but if the 23 Cubs had the starting pitching we had this year 2023 Cubs might have won the division. In my opinion Counsell this year didn't make a difference, but Manager of the year Pat Murphy did, and it was Murphy for the last 8 years in Milwaukee getting the most out of Milwaukee players.
