The Canucks had all the leverage here as it’s musical chairs each offseason where there’s no chair for many goalies. There’s only 64 NHL goalie spots — all of which have been taken.
Waiting for an injury to happen isn’t exactly a good strategy as there’s going to be a slew of goalies on waivers before the start of the season.
The Canucks were fine with waiting or not signing Lankinen at all since they could claim a goalie off waivers before the start of the regular season.
It feels so good to be the team waiting and snagging guys on deals vs. jumping the gun, panicking, and over paying and over terming guys lol
