Now that our season is pretty much over, it’s time to fire this man.

  1. I too think it’s time to move on but I always let my emotions get the best of me. I don’t know what’s best

  2. 100%. Listen to LockedOn Cubs podcast released a few days ago. Great case made for Craig to be promoted.

  3. He’ll play out his contract. 2025 is a make or break season for him. It is pretty telling that the manager thinks it’s ridiculous how bad this team is.

  4. Jed isn’t the problem. We are not spending big bucks on high end talent that teams like the dodgers, Yankees, phillies, braves, etc, are. We flood the roster with middle of the road players (no disrespect, I love my cubbies) and hope for the best. Counsell was a heck of a move but now it’s time to start going all in on some big name players.

  5. Hoyer probably isn’t good enough. But until Ricketts opens up the checkbook, the upside of this franchise is extremely limited.

  6. If Jed had addressed the bullpen, with the 26 Blown saves we accrued, I feel like we would already be in the playoffs, or at least with a lot better chance than we had. But I’ll be honest in saying idk how many wins we got out of those 26 blown, because not all turned into loses I imagine

  7. I think people sorta forget how ass this team was in ‘21. Hoyer inherited a dumpster fire.

He got us back to sea level in an impossibly short amount of time. Maybe he’s not the guy to get us over the hump, but he’s got another year to see if his investment in the youth will pay off. And he deserves another year.

  8. If they keep him, he has to trade for or sign 2 out the following 3, a legit ace, a legit closer &/or Soto

  9. The problem is your firing a yes man for Ricketts unless Tom changes his ways this team is going to continue to be cheap.

  10. Seriously, outside of Theo’s run, what is it with this city’s sports teams seemingly ignoring common sense and being penny pinchers?

  11. Careful what you wish for.

If you were in charge, The left side of our infield would be Javy Baez for $140MM and an injured Kris Bryant for $180MM.

  12. To offer a dissenting opinion here, Jed has done a good job rebuilding the bullpen on the fly multiple years in a row and built a good starting rotation. He’s also gotten lots of cost controlled young players and built up the farm system. Things didn’t break right this year but he made some good moves for the future, like adding Busch and moving on from Morel.

His problem has been whiffing on the marginal players (Mancini, Barnhart, etc.), but now that most of that dead salary is coming off the books this year he has a chance to take a swing on a big time player. My dream is he offers Soto $500 million, sees what he can find to reinforce the bullpen, and adds another starter.

I think the prevailing “Jed sucks” mentality in the fan base is not being fair to the situation he inherited, namely the Heyward contract that hamstrung the team and will actually continue to through 2027 ($5 million annually lmao). Jed has made enough good moves with the cards he’s been dealt (getting Counsell, Imanaga, Bellinger, even Swanson) to earn the final year of his contract, push in the chips he’s acquired and make a run with those crappy contracts expiring. If he stands pat again, I’ll take it all back and ride the hate train, but I really think the foundation is absolutely there for a run next year with a final big move or two.

  13. He’s so content with being average it pisses me off. Let’s get a new hitting coach while we’re at it. Out clutch hitting was non existent this year

  14. If you want to give Jed credit for rebuilding the bullpen on the fly, then you also have to admit that he completely failed at building one in the off-season.

If you want to give Jed credit for the 10 top-100 prospects, then you also are allowed to ask the question of why he overpaid for the corner OF spots and gave them NTCs…blocking a couple of those prized prospects.

  15. Cubs haven’t made the playoffs in a full year since 2018 and currently own a top 10 payroll in MLB

If Jed is a success I’d love to know how

  16. I agree that the season is over but the time to fire him was when he completely failed to hire a bullpen last off-season. We are almost a full season past time.

  17. Rebuilt the organization using the theo method. Has the top farm system in baseball, with the top six prospects set to hit the bigs next year. Doesn’t include PCA or Busch, who both look like legit players, or cam smith who’s probably up for 26. Hired a top manager. This rebuild never had 23 or 24 as competitive years around the core of talent. They were development years. Having a shot at postseason would have been a nice bonus.
25+ and particularly 26-28 will be the target competitive window for this core wave of talent.
I can’t be sure what ownership expectations were. If they asked him to do a Theo-style build, he’s nailing it. I don’t think he’d be judged by this season, with all the talent on the cusp of being big-league ready.

  18. LOL…..you want to fire this alpha male? What about his sidekick Carter Hayes? ( I mean Carter Hawkins, that was a Pacific Heights reference)

  19. I think Counsell said it best, the Brewers are more talented on and off the field. He’s talking about the front office. Bye Jed and hopefully many more to come.

  20. I don’t know — farm looks good and it’s hard to point to a bad contract outside of Swanson and ya’all would have had his head if hadn’t signed an Swanson or one of the other big shortstops that offseason

  21. Ricketts should hold him accountable for his quote in Aug of 2021,, **”no, this isn’t a 2012, 2013 situation. This isn’t a long rebuild.”**

3 Years after 2012, the Cubs where in the NLCS.

3 years after 2021, the Cubs had not made the playoffs during his tenure.

Not only is this rebuild not going to be shorter than 2012, it will be LONGER!

  22. Expectations were a .500 team that might have an upper bound as a playoff team. Those expectations were met. Jed’s signings have also been generally great. I’m not sure what he could have done differently besides sign Ohtani, and that isn’t necessarily Jed’s fault.

Most of our prospects aren’t arriving until next year. If they don’t pan out, and the team is mediocre, then yas queen catapult Jed into the sun. But we won’t know if Jed has done a good job or not until 2025~2026.

  23. Nah, if we don’t have a successful year next season then fire him. He deserves one more season to put it all together. This team is close to competing. We need a few bullpen arms and a legit bat. Where he gets those couple pieces we will see. Maybe the farm or maybe he shocks the world and pries Soto from NY
