Just a little reminder how amazing Acuña was last season

Ohtani is having a great year but let’s not get carried away here.

  1. This is wild, man. Ohtani is INCREDIBLE. This isn’t an attempt to knock him. It’s just crazy to think that Ohtani is having a season like this, and then to also look at Ronnie’s numbers and realize just how crazy that year was for him. Both of these dudes are absolute studs and I’m glad baseball has them at the same time.

  2. Last season, was the best season I’ve ever witnessed as a Braves fan, even without the championship. The entire season was just so fun to watch

  3. Remember all the Dodger fans last year saying that Ronnie’s steals weren’t a big deal because of the bigger bases when they were trying to say Betts should win the MVP? Crickets from them this season.

  4. And he did all that WHILE being a position player (every day no less). For some reason that keeps getting overlooked. Just like Judge this season who is doing both. Yeah, Ohtani is doing amazing things, but only while being a DH.

  5. Don’t forget Acuña also did all that while cutting his strikeout rate in half. Out of all his accomplishments, that’s gotta be the most unprecedented

  6. There is a stat called power speed number that basically balances out HRs and SBs. Formula is 2x(HRxSB)/HR+SB. Keeping them close together helps that number climb the fastest. 40/40 is 40, but Bonds 2001 of 73/13 is 22.1. Acuna was 52.51 last year, which was the record until last night. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/power_speed_number_season.shtml

Acuna does still lead him for the career, and should be assumed he stays ahead by the time they are both done if they both are generally healthy because of age. A 400/600 career would by 480 for 3rd all time behind Barry Bonds (his dad is 5th) and Rickey. I could see Acuna having a good chance at that if his knees hold up. Shohei I’m not sure if he could get that high with pitching too, but it is also Shohei, so not impossible.

  7. I’m just saying, it been a race to 50/50 if Ronald had this year like ‘23. Maybe in a few years he can join the club and make a 60/60. I wouldn’t say next year seeing how he will probably be babying it
