So, as a Blues fan, I have to point out that Perunovich is an offensive defenceman… Not a defensive dman as you state.
If Perunovich is paired with Parayko, who gets among the least O-Zone starts in the entire league, we're absolutely F*cked and will be hemorrhaging goals left, right and center.
The Leddy – Parayko pairing far exceeded expectations last year, starting 42nd and 57th most shifts in their defensive zone in the league (8th & 14th highest for defensemen). And Leddy looked pretty good in that role, despite not being a shutdown defenceman in previous seasons, and he's not as slow as you suggest.
The pairings I expect to see are:
Leddy – Parayko
X – Faulk
X – Kessel
Where X will be whoever shows the best chemistry with the RD of Broberg, P-O Joseph, Suter and Perunovich as LD which we have too many of… I honestly expect we'll be dressing 7 Dmen most nights, so Perunovich can run the PP1 and be given a high O-Zone deployment for his starts.
Bolduc will make the team and play on one if the top two lines. This will put less pressure on Thomas to pull the cart by himself. I think the Blues are underrated but I'm a homer.
