REKAP: ⚾️ Chicago Cubs 6-2 loss to division clinching Phillies. ‘They (Cubs) don’t have any stars.’

The #chicagocubs wanted to win a division in 2024. Tonight, they watched the #philadelphiaphillies do that after a 6-2 loss. #kap says he watched what a team committed to winning looks like, and then he watched the #cubs. The #phillies haven’t been shy about spending when it comes to star players. The Cubs on the other hand? That’s a different story.

Former Cub #kyleschwarber hit his 37th HR and drove in his 100th RBI as the Cubs play out the string and the Phillies play in October.

  1. You just answered yourself, Kap… phillies owner brought in Dombrowski and opened up the wallet more bec he is committed to winning the WS and Tom is committed to "We'll be good again"… if Tom was committed to winning amother WS he would have been happy to spend well over the Tax again in 2017 and make sure his team had a legit lead-off hitter to replace Dexter(or get creative w him) and an 8th inning set-up man to go w Wade Davis…Those 1st 2 Dodger games were there for the taking in LA and back to Wrigley where Jake won his game… but no, let's leave the team short 1-2 players every year…Yeah, we'll be good again, Tom

  2. Ricketts thinks he is a winner, made enough money on the Cubs to buy Chelsea! We have ourselves another Bill Wrigley, he didn’t care about winning Championships either. Pathetic organization, I’m 67, and I probably won’t see another World Series winning Cubs team. Really sad they don’t want to put in the effort to winning on the field as well as the bank.

  3. Boycott Wrigley Fields now! Who b carin? Wirlin verlin breakdancer froms Crestwood IL do. Amysully wat up dog? Cubbies gots no heart. Loveable losers forever b done. Next year b da sames ting. 🤘🃏🎸🥃🍺🤤🪦🥳😂🤣🇺🇲

  4. I'm less bothered by the loss than them doing this 'opener' bull with Pearson. Either you have a starter or you don't. I have no idea how you'd word the rule, but I'd love to see this 'opener' trend banned.

  5. Harper wanted to be a Cub and Castellanos did NOT wanna leave the Cubs. Hell, I’m sure Schwarber wanted to stay too. It’s maddening knowing that and watching all 3 succeed in Philly.

  6. The Cubs spent money. They have the 9th largest payroll in baseball. Brewers have the 23rd. The problem is they spent money on the wrong players. What "stars" are on the Brewers? Adames and Contreras, maybe. Diamondbacks have the 17th largest payroll, and they have blown as many saves as the Cubs and they're in the playoffs, too. I'll give Counsell a pass for his first year, but he's no Lou Pinella that's for sure. The players need to step up, and I won't be sad if Jed is fired. He won't be missed.

  7. Counsell is flooding the zone now with all the scrubs from the farm: Vazquez, Pearson, Kilian, Hollowell(two of the last three brought up today….Counsell must’ve missed the combined ERA of 18.46….I had to use Hollowell’s 2023 ERA because he didn’t have one for this season). He also used notables: Wisdom, Mastrobuoni, and Tauchman against a possible World Series winner. Whatever. There’s nothing left for you to blog about, KAP. Anyone over .500 will beat the Cubs in all likelihood. The Cubs could finish fittingly in fourth if they play true to form the remaining five games. Bring on the farm, Craig.

  8. It's pathetic that we have to put up with this same crap year after year. It's absolutely sickening. Don't look for anything to get any better with the idiots that run this team either.

  9. It will have been 8 years since the Cubs won the NL central full of small market teams (2020 doesn’t count). What is Hoyer afraid of with spending on stars?

  10. Just wait till next year when they solve their closer problem by recycling Alzolay . That'll waste another couple of months right off the bat . And then they'll plug in Hendricks again and add one of their assortment of sore armed overhyped prospects for the 4 and 5 spots . Watch for them to bring up Madrigal as their swing man on the infield and bingo we're good to go . Jed is just so smart .

  11. Agree 100% with Mr. Kap’s commentary. Cub front office and ownership should be listening. This is the collective voice of the Cubs fans. Fire Jed Hoyer now!
