[thedallasdon] Thread of missed opportunities for Xavier Worthy week 3 Chiefs vs Falcons (could have had a massive game, also Matt Nagy/Andy Reid need to let him run real routes):

This won’t be depressing
Reid and Nagy are going to work Worthy in slowly. Until they feel he’s ready, he’s going to be used more as a gadget player with manufactured touches and who runs deep to open things up underneath for Rice.
Wait to criticize Worthy and his usage until, I’d say, week 12-14. Reid and Nagy have a good track record developing these types of players. They’ve earned the benefit of the doubt.
Not surprising , Rice was on a leash the first half of last year, Tyreek and hardman were too when they were drafted, this year it’s worthy.
Some of the routes weren’t great that weren’t shown on this thread.
But this is also encouraging that once Mahomes is out of his little slump, Worthy is separating and Mahomes will hit him
I was encouraged that Andy said that missed 3rd down crosser wasn’t actually Worthy’s fault.
So where’s the thread
can someone post the thread for those of us that don’t use twitter/x?
Nagy has always held the offense back at times. We need to run more vertical routes outside of Rice. Hard to believe Andy calls all the plays because it certainly doesn’t feel that way. 29 TDs to 18 picks since Nagy took over. Part of that is WR personnel and poor play from Mahomes but part of it is scheme too.
Worthy should have had a long TD against Atlanta. I have no concern about this but it’s worth noting how low our ADOT has been the last 2 seasons. Even with more cover 2 it shouldn’t be as low as it is. Too much side to side at times.
Mahomes and Nagy/Andy can be better. Offense will be nasty if we can figure it out.
Okay I will bite… “open” doesn’t mean you get the ball. If you get open after 6/7 seconds the play started you are not open! Every receiver worth their value in salt should be “open” when the play breaks down. A target happens within the confines of the play, which means the ball is released under 3.5 seconds and the qb goes through read one by one. If Mahomes would just pearl clutch the ball for every opportunity shown here that would mean worthy was the first or second read and the play was designed to be developed over multiple seconds. That’s unrealistic. Humbly, you don’t know what you are talking about but I appreciate the spirit.
Dude should be used in the slot more. His YAC would be insane. We know he is fast and can roll down the field, but let him run across the field. The short yardage dunk plays would be good for him. Rice is excelling at the YAC. I think Worthy can be in the same boat if used correctly.
Andy/Nagy appear to be holding back with him despite Hollywood not being here, which is unfortunate. And when he DOES get open on what they give him, Mahomes either underthrows it, throws too late, or simply doesn’t throw it. Definitely need to work on their chemistry.
