I’m sure there’s someone I’m forgetting but Andre Burakovsky
Chu chu train
Crazy that two years ago the answer would be Nichushkin by far, and two years from now it might be Nichushkin again (if he can manage to beat his drug problem).
Until then, maybe Drouin?
I mean despite the off-ice antics (which play into on-ice suspensions) Nichushkin deserves a bit of love on this one
It has to be Jarome Iginla right?
Nichushkin, regardless of how things have gone the last two years we probably don’t win the cup without him.
Can we skip this one and debate best trade instead?
I already commented Nichushkin, but I’m going to throw in another name:
Darren Helm
That goal in St Louis was incredibly cathartic and he was an important player for our third cup, even if he was on the fourth line.
We’re gonna get a lot of recency bias for this one cause it’s hard to remember FA signings lol
With that being said, I’d like to mention Lehky. Can play either wing on any line. No off ice distractions and works harder than anyone on the ice.
Edit: and his good stick that sent us to the cup final
Edit 2: I’m dumb and forgot that was a trade too, as Shaka pointed out
Selanne & Kariya had so much hype, despite how the season went that year. Two superstars signing in Colorado
Nuke is the answer just because there really isn’t anyone else to choose from. Maybe Drouin. IDK, Ryan Smyth?
Rob Blake?
Okay hear me out…
Cody McLeod. Find me another free agent in Avalanche history that played 750+ games in an Avs sweater.
He wasn’t a flashy player but he was a fan favorite for a loooooong time
Ray Bourque. Traded in 2000 to the Avs. Signed a one year UFA deal in 2000 for the 2000-2001 season.
Not Ryan Smyth, that’s for sure…
Didn’t someone high profile recently go to free agency, technically?
I think LOC should be in the discussion
Andrew Brunette is definitely one of the best UFA pickups we’ve ever had.
It’s still probably Choo. Drouin has potential depending on what happens. From the dark ages it’s McLeod and from the olden days I’ll say John Klemm.
If Kariya and Selanne had worked out, it would have been one of them easily, but as it stands I’m struck by how few big FAs we get.
Jon Klemm WITHOUT A DOUBT
Dude flies under the radar but won two Stanley cups and was an unsung hero was a great player on an even better team. Absolutely outstanding defenseman on an already stacked team.
