It’s a fascinating psychology. No one likes to hear it in this context, but look at the similarities in fanbases between the Yankees and the Dodgers. Two teams in huge cosmopolitan cities that have a huge fan base with monumental expectations. Expectations which lead to unreasonable reactions and make it easy for all of baseball to say “holy fuck, we might be bad fans but at least we don’t boo a guy that barehandely killed bin Laden while he was in the minors and rescued children from a burning bus on the way to the game tonight for grounding into a fielder’s choice.”
