REKAP: ⚾️ Chicago Cubs 9-6 loss to Philadelphia Phillies. ‘They have much more power than we do!’

#kap says the #chicagocubs are lucky to have won 1 of 3 against the #philadelphiaphillies. But, that’s who they are. Not good enough offensively to hang with the explosive power 1-9 of the #phillies lineup. #treaturner went deep tonight, along with former Cubs #nickcastellanos. #javierassad was awful, allowing 8 runs. Kap says the accountability falls square at the hands of President #jedhoyer. This team has 3 more to play and then it’s onto a no excuses offseason.

  1. Really hoping "The Jaguar" is 2025's PCA. Still irritates me about Castellanos, Schwarber, Harper & Turner… ALL should've been Cubs. ALL. And they could've easily afforded all of them.

    EDIT:

    1) Jed Hoyer
    2) Tom Ricketts
    3) Players
    4) Craig Counsell (who virtually inherited Rossy's exact team, which had the same Jed/Tom issues as in 2024. CC is the least responsible. He walked into a pre-existing dumpster fire.)

  2. Hoyer #1
    Players#2
    Counsell #3
    Hoyer #4
Ricketts gave Hoyer enough money. Jed failed by forgetting to strengthen the BP. Then when his closer went down he gave a lame excuse about teams not making deals in April/May which is BS since we saw the Padres grab a .350 hitter from Miami. Hoyer had 5 freaking months to grab a closer, he failed.

  3. 1. Jed Hoyer he put the team together and didn't add much from last year
    2. Tom Ricketts if he wants to win then he would open the check book not sure he's interested in that . They might still be recovering from "Biblical losses"
    3. The players, Maya,PCA figured it out late and the Bullpen blew to many games
    4. C.C

  4. Ricketts is like the tribune company.. never spends on players.. he should sell team.
1 Ricketts because he could have spent
    2. Hoyer, for not getting enough pitching.
    3. Hawkins because he could have been burning up the phone lines.

  5. KAP: I’m enclosing a portion of today’s game wrap from reporter, Jordan Bastian, who covers the Cubs for MLB….”With right fielder Seiya Suzuki dealing with a sprained right ankle, the Cubs saw an opportunity to give Alcántara some on-field experience to close out this season. Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Phillies, the North Siders recalled Alcántara (Pipeline’s No. 6 Cubs prospect and the No. 69-ranked prospect overall) from Triple-A Iowa.

“He finished strong,” Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said. “It looks like there’s playing time, so it made sense to do it.” This has been SOP for the front office for forever. Instead of buying a star they choose the freebie route by going to the farm. Even if Suzuki didn’t sprain his ankle you would have seen the Cubs flood the zone with the Iowa and Tennessee scrubs. Sadly, they do it like clockwork every late September. And this is your March/April preview to the 2025 Cubs season where they’ll win about 75 games(Imanaga is charted now so he’ll take substantially more losses next year). Take the under, KAP. 86 is way out of reach for this ball club.

  6. Blaming front office/coaches is easy, but it's facts

    1. Closer; the amount of games blown is ridiculous.

    2. Middle of the order Power bat. Cubs lack a legit all-star caliber bat.

    3. 8-9 hitters, PCA and Amaya grow the last two months of the season, however they buried the team those first few months. Rally killers

    4. Home field advantage. Cubs home record is slightly above 500. Wrigley Field and our great fans should be provide a huge boost and for some reason it doesn't. Earlier in the season losing streaks began at home and then were carried over to the road. Gotta play better at home.

  7. Kap – It starts at the top. Tom Ricketts. He's ultimately in charge and responsible for the product that goes on the field. I watch your other ReKaps and you constantly rail on Jerry Reinsdorf for the embarrassment that is the Chicago White Sox. Well, its the same thing for the Cubs, obviously not as bad, but just as frustrating. Ricketts sets the budget, he employs Hoyer, he allows the roster to be what it is, and down the line. So my ranking in terms of accountability goes. 1. Ricketts, 2. Jed, 3. Counsell, 4. the Players. And for good measure, I'm also going to give some accountability to Carter Hawkins who seems like nothing more than a middle-management stooge. Take That!

  8. Boycott Wrigley Fields now! Who b carin? Wirlin verlin breakdancer froms Crestwood IL do. Amysully wat up dog? Loveable losers forever gots no heart. Fo sho. MAKE AMERICA TRUMPLESS AGAIN FRANKLIN 🤘🃏🎸🥃🍺🤤🇺🇲😂🤣

  9. Why is Wisdom playing? He has no future here and he’s taking away at bats for someone else. Unless Jed gets canned, Paredes will be back taking a spot away for Shaw. A bad trade gets worse.

  10. #1 Hoyer – hardly any trades in offseason. He had plenty of money to spend and he spent in on Counsell instead of getting a closer. He continued dumpster diving right up to the end and continued to get trash. Only great move was Shota.
#2 Counsell – He's supposed to be getting these guys to perform. Also, while Hoyer may put trash like Smyly on the roster, Counsell is still the one who puts him into close games.
#3 Rickets – merely for not firing Hoyer
#4 The physical trainer who can't condition these guys to play without constant injuries.
#5 The players. I get that the mismanagement is demotivating, but those big paychecks should be plenty of motive. Apart from Hoerner, the big money guys seemed to put in less effort than the ones making league minimum.

Not just the Cubs, but all of the teams should put these guys on highly performance based contracts.

  11. The Philadelphia Phillies' 2024 payroll, including benefits and bonuses, is $254 million…Chicago Cubs $237 plus million.
    Accountability:
Tom Ricketts…not holding the FO accountable. Weak Leader…Strong Follower.
Jed Hoyer…Touts his ability to rebuild. Strong Leader…Weak Follower. Epic Fail 2003/2004.

  12. I keep reading that the team needs a superstar. Angels had Trout and Ohtani and won nothing. I'm not the sort of person who is interested in assigning blame. For me this season became enjoyable after the trade for Paredes.
