[Kendall Beck] Per @SheilKapadia on The Ringer’s Philly Special, Zack Baun led all defenders in the NFL in Week 3 in stops (tackles that lead to a negative EPA for the offense) with 8 tackles. The runner-up? Nakobe Dean with 7. They’re playing like one of the best duos in the league.

  1. I’m not saying anything against their performances, Baun has been great and outside of a couple of coverage misses Dean has been playing like his hair is on fire–but tackles should not be the leading, or sole metric to measure a LB, because an abnormally high amount of tackles could mean they’re actively being targeted during a game.

  2. 100% noticeable on the field.

This is prob the best LB-play we’ve had since bradham, hicks, and mychal

  3. The next test is playing a team that uses 11 personnel more than five times a game lol.

Basically, as every good Eagles sportswriter/podcaster has pointed out the Saints LOVE to run 21 personnel. They love to have these big formations with multiple backs and a TE (sometimes two). That allowed us to stay in our base defense and often run five and sometimes six man lines. So the d-linemen were attacking one on ones more often rather than reading and reacting. Our lineman kept the backers clean and they both played extremely well.

Vic Fangio and the D-line had a great game, and this will probably translate to most Shanahan offenses (like the Niners). But now we need to do the same thing or similar when teams have three wide receivers on the field because that’s most of them.

  4. Got damn. Can we get 2 weeks in a row of great defensive play? The Bucs are surely pissed off after that terrible loss last week

  5. Finally have good inside linebacker play, now we need our outside pass rushers to get there shit together. Unfortunately I think most teams are gonna be doubling Jalen Carter going forward

  6. The nakobe Dean stuff never made sense this offseason. People were calling him an injury prone bust even though he looked great his rookie year in limited snaps and was active and healthy every game that year on special teams. He’s played more games than CJ in the 2 years since he got in the league, but is the only one that gets the injury prone label
