Paul Maurice, Florida Panthers: Training Camp Practice – Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024

Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice speaks following his team’s practice at the Fort Lauderdale IcePlex on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024.

This came a day after his team lost 8-7 to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a strange but exciting preseason game at Orlando’s Kia Center.

Florida held a 7-5 lead late in the third before the Lightning scored three straight goals to pull out the win.

Neither team brought many regulars to Orlando for the game.

The Panthers will visit the Carolina Hurricanes for their fourth preseason game on Friday night.

Florida starts its defense of the Stanley Cup championship on Tuesday, Oct. 8, against the Boston Bruins.

On June 24, the Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Florida took a 1-0 lead in the first on a goal from Carter Verhaeghe off a sharp pass from Evan Rodrigues.

Tied at 1 in the second, Dmitry Kulikov swept away the puck from an empty net — and Sam Reinhart scored on the ensuing rush.

The rest was up to the Florida defense which clamped down on the Edmonton offensive — with the help of some stellar goaltending from Sergei Bobrovsky.
