Big Dub in The District | Royals Rally Late to Sweep Nationals

Following back-to-back shutout wins to open the series, the Royals took the field looking to sweep the Nationals on the way out of town. Hunter Renfroe struck in the 2nd inning with a solo home run, and the Royals would take the lead in the 3rd thanks to RBIs from Tommy Pham, Bobby Witt Jr., and Yuli Gurriel. The Nationals would rally to tie the game, and it would stay tied into the 9th inning setting the stage for some late-game dramatics. Adam Frazier stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter with a pair of runners on in the 9th inning and looped a go-ahead, two-run single into left field to put the Royals on top. Salvador Perez would go on to drive Frazier in giving the Royals an additional insurance run. The strong bullpen run continued with Angel Zerpa, John Schreiber, and Kris Bubic tossing scoreless innings leading to Lucas Erceg’s perfect 9th inning, securing his third-consecutive save and a Royals sweep over the Nationals.
