  1. This was him answering if he was supporting team USA or Serbia while watching the Olympics this summer.

Some follow up tweets from him:

[After we beat the warriors in the bay Steve Kerr asked if I wanted to play on the USA team… idk bro. It’s a bit rhetorical but hey we got gold](https://x.com/double0ag/status/1839397885290700884?s=46&t=enWfXjpj8sIkyBa1T1cQcA)

[If you think I’m not working every damn day to play in 2028 and represent…I got goals! Don’t care if you wanna see me fail](https://x.com/double0ag/status/1839398781118472676?s=46&t=enWfXjpj8sIkyBa1T1cQcA)

  2. He coulda been a potential fine glue guy but really wouldn’t have gotten much minutes. Esp when KD came back. And they weren’t going to go small with 3 great big’s on the team

  3. To make it to the NBA you probably need some sort of delusion but once you get there and have been there awhile, you should know where you stand in the pecking order.

  4. Gotta be honest, when I was watching Team USA this summer I never once thought “man, you know who this team is really missing? Aaron Gordon.”

  5. Dude was a solid 2/3 option on a championship team and y’all are acting like he’s literal shit on the court.

  6. It’s so weird that we’re still talking about it months later. From the early stages, it became very clear how this team was constructed; steph and lebron parade, with built in security blankets if either of them ended up too tired/old/injured to hold up their end of the deal. Turned out they were, which is why we never saw minutes from those backups.

After that, it was just filling in gaps + backing up those guys as well

    1. Steph (with security blanket hali) as 1 guards that can shoot lights out

    2. Book/jrue as 2 guards that can handle the ball if needed, shoot well, and are willing to be point of attack defenders

    3. Lebron (with security blanket tatum) as do-it-all fulcrum SFs

    4. Kd/kawhi as 4 spots that can score at all 3 levels, can play next to/swap roles with lebron as needed

    5. Ad/bam/embiid as situational bigs; ad if you need switchability and a bit more floor spacing, bam for just full switch d + energy, embiid for serbia and france

When kawhi dropped(kicked) out, ad was more than capable of sliding down, and it was interesting (but ended up a moot point) that they went with another guard, considering the only other dude that didn’t fit was ant, as more of a sparkplug 6th man type that you could jumpstart an offense with.

Outside of their defined roles, all those dudes can slide up and down 1 spot, giving kerr the option to play mix and match if needed. But again, it wasn’t, and he legit ended up rolling out basically the same roster for all the games that actually mattered, and keeping them in for 30+ minutes a game. Not much backing up to go around after that.

AG doesn’t fit any of those roles. He doesn’t bring explosive O on his own. He’s a great defender, but doesn’t really bring the floor spacing that AD does, nor the ability to play 5 full time like bam. He’s an athletic af full time 4, great D, with a meh shot and no real post game.

It worked amazingly well, but on paper it’s going to be a bit worrisome in 2028 to turn around and try to build around a hali-book-tatum centric roster. If backfilling with jaylen and ag is the only options by that point, they might have to take a different approach altogether.

  7. I do think it would be interesting if they built the USA team a different way than just the best players that you can fit together on a team. I thought it might be better if the bench was filled with the best bench players in the league, guys like AG and Hart

  8. I agree that there are enough players ahead of him to leave him out, but there are not enough people ITT admitting that he would be a good fit for Team USA if given the opportunity

  9. Lots of head scratchers for that olympic team even tho it’s ancient history and they won. Why Derrick white? Why no JB or AG. Why kawhi Leonard? Why not more young players? I’ll give them a pass for the 3 elder statemen of the game.

  10. I think there’s some merit to that, it all worked out but LBJ and Durant are old geezers they could have easily gotten injured, and who were the big wing forwards behind them.. Literally just Tatum

  11. I guarantee you no one looking at the finalized roaster was like “you know what this team needs, Aaron Gordon.”

  12. The real answer is, AG would’ve been a fine addition to the team but they didn’t need him with how they were constructed.

Same with Jaylen Brown and a few others.

This is a first world draft problem.
